BuildExcerpts limitation? (failed to read searchd response (msg=Connection reset by peer))

We are trying to build the excerpt of a certain amount of docs.

Above around 450 docs passed to BuildExcerpts, we receive

Sphinx::SphinxConnectError (failed to read searchd response (msg=Connection reset by peer))

Is there any limitations on the number of docs that we could passed to BuildExcerpts?
