how to make html search show the text snippet where a match is found

Does anyone know what is needed to make the html search functionality show the phrase where the match was encountered (including highlighting of the found term)?

For example, this functionality works nice on the following pages:

But on my own project, I only get the chapter titles, without the matching phrases. https://documentation-qaweb.healthcare.barco.com/html/en/search.html?q=workstation&check_keywords=yes&area=default

It doesn't work, even on my local development machine.

I tried switching to a different theme than the read-the-docs theme, but no effect.
