The Sphere Project was launched in 1997 by a group of humanitarian NGOs and the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement to promote quality and accountability in humanitarian work. For more information on Sphere Project, Please visit: www.sphereproject.org.


Sphere India was launched as a country pilot of Sphere Project in the region. It is a national coalition of humanitarian agencies in which members include key nodal agencies from the Government of India, U.N., INGOs, Network NGOs and National NGOs.


The Sphere India Unified Response Strategy (URS) as an action-based project was launched with this rational to build common understanding among different stakeholders for an organized and coordinated response. The vision is to bring stakeholders at state level (implementation level) on to a common platform, map their resources, capacities and vulnerabilities, to identify gaps and overlaps, and to gradually build a common understanding for common assessments, common response planning and common monitoring & evaluation processes.

 

The current position, Sphere Coordinator is for coordinating multiple activities in the humanitarian sector. She/he will be report to the Focal Point – Unified Response Strategy, Sphere India with programmatic accountability to CARE India, Andhra Pradesh.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

v  To be the liaison focal person for Sphere India URS.

v  Facilitating the set up of IAG Andhra Pradesh.

v  Organizing State and District Level Coordination Committee Meetings (DLCC) and IAG Meets for greater accountability and coordinated action.

v  Liaison with government administration for information sharing.

v  Compiling and dissemination of information related to compensation, government orders and strategies.

v  Collection and collating information on humanitarian agencies and like-minded organizations working at the state and district level for humanitarian database.

v  Updating of efforts of the government and agencies to SPHERE URS.

v  Ensuring the activation and de-activation of Unified Response.

v  Facilitating inter-agency assessments, based on the need. 

v  Documentation of good practices in relief, response and rehabilitation efforts for replication.

v  To conduct humanitarian mapping of agencies, efforts and situations and developing communication and information strategy for internally displaced people (IDPs).

v  Helping in chalking out initiatives for rehabilitation, reconstruction and reviving livelihoods.

v  Identification of key advocacy issues at the district and state level of the vulnerable communities.

v  To maintain livewire contact with the government authorities and local media.

v  Collection and collation of statistical information from surveys on damages, loss of lives, livelihoods, displaced, impact on the situation of the social fabric etc.

v  Consolidate process documents and reports for the activities conducted.

v  To maintain periodic communication (weekly & monthly) with Sphere URS and updating about the field situation.

 

Requirements:


Training/Education:

·         Advanced degree in social sciences, emergency or other related field.

·         Training or experience in field research, documentation and reporting.

·         Understanding of and commitment to the Sphere Principles.

 

Field experience:

 

·         3-5 years of experience, with focus on disaster management, integrated development, project management and planning, monitoring and evaluation.

 

Linguistic competence:

 

·         Fluency in Telugu and English is a must.

·         Excellent Writing and documentation skills.


Other skills and attributes:

 

·         Effective communicator.

·         Able to function under stressful conditions.

·         Mature outlook

·         Good coordination and planning skills

·         Documentation skills.


Reporting:

 
The incumbent will report to The Focal Point, Sphere India, Unified Response Strategy (URS) and will be accountable to Sphere India URS Sub-Committee and CARE India, Andhra Pradesh.

Duration: 1 Year (extendable based on the availability of funds).

 

Salary: Negotiable.

 

Duty Station: Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh and involves travel to districts.
