Cyclonic Storm “VARDAH” over Southeast Bay of Bengal:

The cyclonic storm, VARDAH over southeast Bay of Bengal moved North-Northwestwards and lay centered at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 9th December, 2016 over southeast Bay of Bengal near Latitude 12.1ºN and Longitude 90.4ºE, about 990 km southeast of Gopalpur. The system is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 12 hours. It is very likely to move initially northwestwards, then west-northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Kakinada around afternoon/evening of 12th December 2016.

Forecast:   Weather very likely to be dry over Odisha during next 24 hours.

Heavy R/F Warning:  NIL

Advice for hoisting Storm Warning Signals: Distant Warning Signal Number Two (DW-II) kept hoisted at Paradeep and Gopalpur Ports.

Likely impacts and actions:    NIL

Cyclonic Storm, VARDAH over southeast Bay of Bengal: Cyclone Alert for Andhra Pradesh Coast

 

Date 08.12.2016 and Time of issue: 1200 HOURS IST

 

The cyclonic storm, VARDAH over southeast Bay of Bengal moved further northwards during past 06 hours with a speed of 9 kmph and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 8 th December, 2016 over southeast Bay of Bengal near Latitude 11.5ºN and Longitude 90.5ºE, about 1040 km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam, 1135 km east-southeast of Machilipatnam, 360 km northwest of Car Nicobar and 240 km west-southwest of Port Blair. The system is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 24 hours. It is very likely to move nearly northwards for some more time, then northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Kakinada around forenoon/ noon of 12th December 2016.
