Greetings from Sphere India!
The Inter-Agency Group (IAG)- Bihar, in collaboration with
Sphere India, is organizing a Consultation for agencies working with
communities in the Kosi region.
Among its objectives, the Consultation aims at obtaining a
picture of the recovery and rehabilitation efforts in the Kosi region, understanding
the challenges faced by agencies, the lessons learnt in this phase and
identifying issues for further advocacy.

Background:
It is now over a year since the
Kosi region witnessed some of the most devastating floods in recent
history. In this time, the Bihar government, a number of non-government
organisations and other civil society organisations have been working with
communities to help them recover from the impact of the floods. While much
has been achieved through the sustained efforts of these actors, over the
past year, still more remains to be done.
The consultation is an attempt to
better understand and document the experiences of the agencies in working
with the communities. The findings from the consultation will be shared at
the national level for further advocacy.
The Bihar IAG, through its
periodic meetings, has been attempting to provide agencies with a platform
through which they can share their common concerns and plan collective
action.
Sphere India has been functioning
as a national coalition of humanitarian agencies in India. As a part
of the collaborative, Sphere India has been promoting URS (Unified Response
Strategy) in India to improve coordination at different stages of the
response to humanitarian crisis. Through its District Coordinators in the
Kosi region, Sphere India has been facilitating inter-agency coordination
and information sharing among agencies and also with the district
administration.
The IAG Bihar in collaboration
with Sphere India is facilitating this consultation in Madhepura, Bihar.
Objectives of Workshop:
The consultation aims at
achieving the following:

Obtaining an overall picture of the recovery and
rehabilitation efforts in the Kosi region.
·
Understanding the lessons learnt by the agencies
while working with communities.
·
Identifying challenges being faced by agencies
·
Highlighting advocacy issues in the Kosi region
