Quake shakes Kashmir
Srinagar: Earthquake of intensity measuring 5.2 on Richter scale jolted Kashmir this afternoon at 1516 IST. The jolts, trigger panic among the people. However, there were no reports of any property or human damage or casualty as of now.
Epicenter of the quake is said to be in the Hindukush mountain range of Afghanistan. Its epicenter is said to be at 36.5 degree North latitude and 71.2-degree East longitude.
There were reports that many people were panic and rushed outside their homes for safety.
The quake reminded people of harsh times of a devastating quake of 8 October 2005 that was recorded at 7.6 on the Richter scale and left trail of destruction apart from claiming lives of hundreds of people in both sides of the Kashmir region.
To mention Jammu and Kashmir is highly prone to earthquakes. Srinagar and its adjoining areas fall in seismic zone V whereas the rest of the state falls in seismic zone IV, experts believe. (BH)
