Cyclonic storm ‘WARD’ over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal: Cyclone alert for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast: Yellow Message.
Cyclone Alert
The Cyclonic storm ‘WARD’ over Southwest and adjoining southeast bay of Bengal moved further northwards and lay centred at 0530 hours IST of 12th December 2009 near latitude 10.0 degree North and longitude 84.5 degree east at about 500 Kms East-Southeast of Nagapattinam. The system is likely to move in a Northwesterly direction towards Tamil Nadu coast.
Sustained maximum surface wind speed is estimated to be about 45 knots. The state of the sea is high to very high around the system centre. The estimated central pressure is about 998 HPA.
Weather Warning
· Under its influence rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places likely to occur over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from today 12th December 2009 afternoon.
· Squally weather with wind speed reaching 55-65 Kmph gusting to 75 Kmph also likely to commence along off coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from today 12th December 2009 afternoon and becoming gale force wind speed reaching 75-85 gusting to 95 Kmph causing slight damage to pucca structure, Branch of trees fall off and Thatched hut damaged.
· Sea condition will be high to very high along and off these coasts. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off these coasts.
