Many of you may have already gotten this.  In the spirit of the 6th cooperative principle (cooperation among cooperatives), it would be a good thing if our Co-op could use its two nominations to send along nominees for PACA. (NOTE: Being nominated doesn't guarantee being chosen since they may end up getting way more nominees than board positions.) If anyone reading this would like to be considered as one of the South Philly Food Co-op's nominees to the PACA board, feel free to email me. I volunteer to compile all the names for the Board, which should ultimately make the choice of whom to nominate.

If you'd like to recognize someone from our community with such a nomination, feel free to send that also and I'll inform that person and let her or him decide to accept consideration or not.

Thanks!

DP

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance is proud to announce that it will hold its first ever Annual Membership Meeting and elect its first Board of Directors on November 15.

We are looking for a diverse and enthusiastic group of candidates to fill a total of nine seats which will help shape both PACA’s future and the future of our local cooperative movement.

This is an historic moment for PACA.  We have incorporated, established bylaws, obtained 501(c)(3) status, begun recruiting members, and partnered with the National Cooperative Business Association to hire our first executive director. We’re off to a good start, but we need a vibrant and committed Board of Directors to take PACA to the next level.

If your co-op or credit union is a member of PACA, you can nominate up to two candidates for the board! We hope that you or other members of your co-op will join us to become part of this dynamic and growing organization.

Please take a moment to learn how the nominations process works and then use this form to nominate yourself or another cooperator. Nominations are due Sept. 30.

We thank you and look forward to your participation in electing PACA’s first board. And remember — save the date for November 15!

PACA's a 501(c)3!

We applied to receive federal tax exempt status many, many months ago.

We just received word that we've been approved!

This is big news for PACA - it opens up new funding opportunities and allows us to be a home to nonprofit co-op initiatives throughout the Philadelphia region. We're very excited!

PACA's Co-op PSA Project

We want more people to know about co-ops, so we produced some public service announcements about co-ops for radio!

Hear the PSAs and learn about the project on the PACA blog.

This project is part of PACA's efforts to raise public awareness about cooperative enterprise. Another project coming out soon is a self-guided Co-ops 101 webinar full of examples from Philly co-ops — keep an eye out for it in the next month.

Hello Co-operator: Colleen Watts
Kensington Community Food Co-op

What is the most important thing you’ve learned from being a co-operator?
Colleen: "A group of neighbors can band together and take control of bringing healthy and affordable food to their community, rather than waiting for some corporation to come along and do it. It’s truly an amazing thing."
