Many of you probably already received this but I figured I'd pass it along in case you're interested in participating in this webinar tomorrow. (I'm a little confused by the time being 1pm CST which would be actually be 3pm EDT but I'm sure you if you register it will tell you exactly when the webinar happens live.)

Anyway, as you can see from the picture and from what many of you have already gone through with communication training, it seems to be consistent with how we've been trying to teach everyone to talk about the Co-op.

(If you do listen in, feel free to send something to Marketing/Communications about how it was.)

Co-op as the Hero: Storytelling for Startups

Tuesday, August 19, 1pm CST

If heroes are known by the things they do in pursuit of a noble purpose, then your co-op is definitely a heroic force. In this month's startup webinar, you will accept the call to adventure, be initiated in the rites of storytelling, and return to your community with epic tales to tell--starring your co-op, the hero!

Join seasoned storytellers
Patricia Cumbie and Leslie Watson of CDS Consulting Co-op and your host Suzi Carter of Food Co-op Initiative to learn helpful frameworks and strategies to super charge your co-op’s story into a compelling narrative that will build passion, energy, and a shared sense of purpose within your co-op’s community.

Patricia Cumbie is a writer and consultant who loves sharing the values of cooperation with people.  “I believe that we have the opportunity to strengthen education and outreach, and enhance the understanding of cooperation in more communities.” Over the course of her career at Seward Co-op, Mississippi Market and Lakewinds Food Co-op, Patricia worked as a marketing and member services director, customer service manager, trainer, editor, and co-author of How to Start a Food Co-op and the Membership Equity Toolbox.
Leslie Watson has long been motivated by the power of cooperation, which led her to become involved in Eastside Food Co-op in 2002 during its startup phase. She served on the board for nearly ten years and was recognized for her contribution with a Howard Bowers Award for Board Service. “Cooperation has been the foundation of my involvement in my own community,” she said. “So I am really excited about people committed to developing their co-ops.” Leslie currently works for CDS Consulting Co-op and Cooperative Development Services.

Tips to be webinar ready

  • Review your stories. Take a quick look over your co-op's Facebook page, website, newsletter, PowerPoint, and collateral materials. What does your co-op sound like? What's the story?
  • Bring two burning questions. What makes our live webinars better is--you! What story obstacles are you experiencing? Write a couple down.
  • Webinar link on the way. Once registered, keep an eye out for an email from us.
  • Log in to YouTube. This will allow you to fully participate in the webinar.
