SPEVI 2027: Hindsight, Insight, Foresight: Sharing What We Know, Growing What We do.

Dear SPEVI members and friends,

As Co-President of SPEVI Inc and Chair of the SPEVI Conference Organising Committee, it is my genuine pleasure to invite you to our much-anticipated biennial conference, to be held 18–20 January 2027 at the Peter Cosgrove Centre in Sydney.

Bringing together SPEVI members and colleagues from across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, the South Pacific and beyond, this three-day, in-person gathering promises to be both professionally enriching and personally rewarding. Across the heart of Sydney, we will share learning, strengthen networks, enjoy meaningful social connection, and celebrate the depth and diversity of our sector.

The conference will welcome specialist teachers, parents, students, academics, allied health professionals, orientation and mobility instructors, assistive technology developers and distributors, and all those committed to the education of learners with vision impairment and additional disabilities.

Our theme, Hindsight, Insight, Foresight: Sharing What We Know, Growing What We Do, invites thoughtful presentations, rich discussion, and critical engagement with the issues shaping our field. Together, we will reflect on our collective knowledge and consider how it can guide future practice for the benefit of the learners and communities we serve. SPEVI is also proud to be participating in the ICEVI/WBU Global Braille Literacy Campaign, and the conference will provide meaningful opportunities to further the aims and impact of this important initiative within our Blue Pacific region.

Ben Clare, Co-president of SPEVI Inc; Chair, SPEVI Conference Organising Committee.
