Dear SPEVI members, colleagues, and friends,
SPEVI Inc is a partner in the ARC Linkage Project entitled "Accessible Mathematics for Students who are Blind or have Low Vision”, led by Monash University.
We’re happy to share the below call from Leona Holloway for research participants in two studies and we appreciate your support for this project.
These studies have Ethics clearance through Monash University.
The Monash Assistive Technology & Society (MATS) Centre currently has two opportunities for blind and low vision students to take part in our research activities.
1. Students (or ex-students) with a print disability who have studied mathematics in year 10 or higher are invited to take part in a 10 minute survey about their experiences. Respondents can choose to go in the draw for a $100 voucher and/or register their interest in taking part in a (paid) interview or focus group. For further information and the survey link, go to
https://www.accessiblemaths.org/get-involved/student-survey/
Student input will help to shape the creation of an accessible mathematics notebook app, which is being developed as part of ARC Linkage Project LP240100506 in partnership between Monash University, the University of Southern Queensland, SPEVI, the Departments of Education NSW, Victoria & Queensland, the Round Table on Information Access for People with Print Disabilities and Vision Australia.
2. To evaluate the use of TapeBlocks with children who are blind or have low vision, we are sending out free kits for primary school aged children to learn about circuits. We will run a personalised online session with the budding maker/scientist and a supervising adult, when we will play with some pre-made blocks and make our own. Sessions will take no more than one hour and will be modified according to the child's interest. The registration form and more information are available at

I am happy to answer any questions you may have about these two studies, via leona.h...@monash.edu.
with thanks,
Leona
