Lawrence Summers is an American economist, former Secretary of the United States Treasury, and former President of Harvard University. Summers is currently the Charles W. Eliot professor at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. From 2009-2011, Summers was Director of the White House United States National Economic Council. He received the John Bates Clark Medal for his significant contributions to the field of economics in 1993.
