1. Emotional Insulation: After Mercedes got in a minor car crash, she
sat on the couch and wouldn't say anything to anyone and just stared
into the distance.
2. Undoing: After Sally Stride stole a pack of gum from the local
variety store, she felt guilty for her actions and began waking up
early every Sunday to go to church with her mother.
3. Intellectualization: After Tom's wife died, whenever people offered
their condolences for his loss, he immediately started to explain, in
great detail, the rare blood disease, which caused her death.
4. Anticipation: In preparation for what was supposed to be "the storm
of the century", Larry the Lumberjack spent the entire weekend
chopping wood so his family would be able to have warmth once the
storm hit.
5. Regression: After Sandy found out the store was out of the sandals
she wanted, she stomped her feet the entire way home and called her
mom to whine about it.
