Altruism- Barbra always feels happy after her shift at the soup
kitchen, where she serves meals to the homeless.
Undoing- Trip feels bad that he used to think about pushing his
brother down the stairs, so now, Trip makes sure his bother is always
careful on the stairs.
Compartmentalization- By day, Paul is a nerdy businessman who gets
mugged daily, but at night he puts on a cool Batman suit and fights
crime in the street.
Emotional Insulation- The frightened young soldiers huddling in the
trenches of the battlefield refused to cry in front of one another or
show any signs of fear.
Substitution- Tom drove to a sketchy parking lot to buy a prostitute
because a few minutes before, he was sexually aroused by a hot, but
unavailable, woman walking on the sidewalk.
