1. Idealization: Jenny had a crush on a boy who had positive
qualities, but she still insisted he was a unique and awesome guy.
2. Compensation: Jim is often picked on during his walk home from
school, so he escapes this pain by going to a larping club, where he
plays a knight in medieval times.
3. Reaction-Formation: Annie told her husband that she was a
republican when they got married to avoid arguments, but she really
has always been a democrat
4. Anticipation: Adam was a healthy 23 year-old when he heard that his
entire family had bad backs and he was likely to get one too. In
preparation for this, he bought a tempurpedic mattress.
5. Passive Aggression: Jack has never liked Jill. So, when they were
put together for a group project, Jack purposefully made Jill uneasy
by procrastinating until the last minute.
