Greetings All,

I hope everyone enjoyed their Fall break, ready to end the school year with purpose. Our first meeting of the semester was yesterday. If no one has any conflicts, we will continue to meet every Tuesday at 6:30pm in the Women's Center. Here are the items discussed so that we will have a productive semester:

Shackling:
Spark Legislate This! (local reproductive justice non-profit) will be coming to next week's meeting to discuss the current climate of female prisoners that are unethically chained during childbirth. We are looking to connect the effects of such deplorable acts to the current loop holes in health care reform that negatively attack women's health

Critical Film Screening:
A relevant film showing for campus followed by discussion....ideas are welcome!

Spring Hip Hop Concert: I Used to Love H.E.R
Market Friday has committed to an ongoing effort to be more purposeful by having "themes". We are looking to have SGA sponsor our hip hop concert! At this point, we have decided to ask Ms. Latifah, Corrine Stevens, Iyanna Davis, Leslie from SCAD to begin our talent for the event. If everyone could contact local artists to make this concert a success that would be great. We are looking for female MCs, djs, break dancers, and all other artists. The goal is to truly embrace the theme of "celebrating women in hip hop" during the concert while maintaining diversity.

Corretta Scott King Empowerment Initiative:
We developed a 3 Series curriculum to establish a relationship between the elementary school and their big sisters at Spelman under the models Identity: Who are You? Embracing Individuality (Feb), Purpose: Celebrating Women's Contributions to the World for Women's Herstory Month (March), Respect: Tolerance vs. Acceptance (April), and a culminating party (May) where will distribute awards. The backdrop of this mentorship is sisterhood!

That is all that we discussed in the meeting. For those unable to attend the meeting, feel free to offer any questions/objections and your ideas and opinions. Also, I think we need to "decorate" the campus with information for Herstory in the month of March. Can someone requisition the board in Upper Manley?

In Solidarity,
sade
