Greetings!

Krista created a really cool logo for our Always Your Sisters Campaign. I have sent out the flyers that will be distributed on campus. Also, please continue to find large boxes (Aramark has been very helpful) for donated items and place them in the Women's Center storage room. The sooner we can decorate them and being to place them about campus the better!

We had a very productive meeting today as we addressed the need for more visibility of the women's stories who have experienced insidious shackling during birth. Spark Legislate This! shared with us their current research on shackling in the prison industry and the many human rights violations that have been maintained throughout our history up until today. Ginger had an awesome idea to precede an event that we can do around reproductive justice in the rise of the health care reform. She suggested that we have a guerrilla style demonstration on the gate the day of the event that showcased girls being chained. With further development of this idea, we should ask the drama/department to help us demonstrate the fact that women who birth the world are being chained like slaves and their health is being complicated by unjust policies.

Can someone please agree to go to the Coretta Scott King school. I have been without transportation since the winter break and will be until next week. The proposal for our mentoring project will be ready by Thursday morning and it would be great if someone could share our ideas over there to begin our February session!

March is Women's Herstory Month! We have decided on either a board display or an installation that represents women's accomplishments as well as having a woman to represent each department of our school. For example, Shirley Chisolm as the first African American Congresswoman in the Political Science department and Marian Wright Edelman in the Education department etc....The creative details need to be finalized but at this point please gather biographical information to represent our diverse campus.

Lastly, Sequoia (SGA market Friday coordinator) and I are in conversation about the hip hop concert. Please continue to find and approach contacts for the I Used to Love H.E.R jam session...Love of My Life. I think it can and will be amazing if we stay vigilant about populating the program now!!!

Have a productive week everyone

sade

This is a great idea! Thanks Patrice. I think it would be incredibly productive if we were able to have the drama/dance department coordinate with us. Their presence would be both impactful and choreographed. What do you all think?

Hey Sade and FMLA peeps!

After reading your email I came up with an idea for your prison shackling event.  At different parts of the day, you could have a silent demonstration of FMLA members dressed as pregnant inmates shackled together and slowly walking up and down the hall way.  For example, you could have two members doing this while walking through upper manley or in front of the glass windows by the cafeteria.  You could also place people in Cosby, Giles, Manley patio, and the Science Center.

Just an idea!

Keep me posted & best wishes.
