Hello:

I'm working on a site prototype and I'd love to be able to use Speeqe
as the discussion engine. The problem is that I have zero experience
working with any of the modules required. Compound this with the depth
of my coding skills does not go much deeper than the graphical layer
(just enough to be able to screw things up) and it makes for a
frustrating experience... through no fault but my own.

That being said, here's a few questions...

If you were to start from scratch, what type of hosting provider
should one look for? Does it need to be a dedicated server?

While Speeqe can work via Javascript, what's the optimal install?
Start from scratch and install all necessary modules? Run your own
jabber server or connect to existing (jabber or google)?

What is the maximum # of participants? I see from the demos that you
can setup rooms for 200 max. Can this go higher or is this a built-in
xmmp limitation?

Is there anyone willing (and able) to -- for a fee -- install the
entire platform for me? Ideally, I'd like to get it up and running and
then tweak the UI.

Thanks.

As far as hosting a speeqe instance goes, its probably best to have a dedicated server where you can install your own software.  Pick a hosting service that allows this.

The optimal install is to have all the components setup. Currently the javascript only version is tough to work with.  The javascript only version works best with anonymous logins, but tough to use with real xmpp accounts. Connecting to an existing xmpp server is as easy as connecting to your own.  If you want full control over your rooms its best to have your own server.  The maximum number of components is not an xmpp limitation, its usually a configuration option on your xmpp server.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Nathan.

What is your opinion on cloud servers? It seems an inexpensive way to
get a prototype up and running: http://www.rackspacecloud.com/cloud_hosting_products/servers

Would that work? Would it scale well?

To clarify a previous question... Speeqe has a max participants option
for 200 users. Is that a built-in or xmpp limitation? Is it possible
to have thousands of users participating in a single chat room?

Do you have anyone you would recommend that would do an install for $?

Cloud servers are perfectly fine and do end up being cheaper than a physical server.  speeqe.com is run on amazon web services.  I am sure rackspace's cloud service is also fine. Its new compared to the others.  It would scale fine.

for xmpp-muc is it possible to have thousands in a single chat room.  The speeqe limit is the default for ejabberd (the xmpp server on speeqe.com).
