Hello!

In the Speeqe Setup Guide it says that you need :

* A webserver for static html/javascript and proxy
o Nginx or Apache or Cherokee

* A webserver to host the django portion of speeqe
o Apache
o Django - (>=0.9.6)

If I have a hosting service from a hosting company like godaddy.com
can I make such an installation?

I'm new to this field and I don't really understand where the Nginx or
the webserver that hosts the Django code are linked together.

Thanks a lot,

M Sorin

Since you are new, I would suggest starting with apache and django. Django is a python web framework. You can start a www.djangoproject.com  and httpd.apache.org.  The documentation there should help with understanding what they are.

Hello,

I think I didn't express myself well :). I'm not new in the sense that I've never used Django or Apache.
I'm new in the sense that I never used/installed Strophe and Punjab or Speeqe before.
I don't know if a simple hosting service is enough for a such installation.
I suppose I can put the django portion of speeqe on the webserver from the hosting service.
But what happens with the server needed for reverse proxy?

I have never used godaddy so I don't know much about it, but if you are able to run processes on the server you can run punjab and the xmpp server there.  The reverse proxy needs to point to punjab.  Punjab will connect to either your xmpp server or some other server.   Godaddy will have to let you install processes on the server.

Hi,

thanks again for the reply. The xmpp server already exists on another domain than the domain I was talking about.

My problem is that I don't know where the reverse proxy has to be physically so it can point to punjab.
But after a while investigating I don't think a hosting service will help me too much.

I suppose you didn't have the same problem since the websites where you deployed strophe/punjab have they're  own servers.

Thanks again
M Sorin

By the way, maybe it is a useful information for someone:
Godaddy hosting service does not support Django (until now, at least) as you can see from here:
http://groups.google.com/group/django-users/browse_thread/thread/7a153a94ec4a26b5

But if someone needs a Django-friendly hosting service here's a list:
