Players may "punch out" at any time to end the level. After punching out of a level, players are taken to a small collection of rooms known as "The Office". The Office acts as an interactive way for players to see how well they may have performed on the previously completed level. As well as a large report screen displaying the player's score in the form of a percentile, several news articles can also be found scattered around The Office's main room. These detailed events are caused by the player's oversights, such as employees consuming viscera, tripping over buckets, choking on discarded bullet shells, and show the player what they may have missed upon completing a level. The Office also serves as a place to collect items, which can be brought from successfully completed levels via the "Janitor's Trunk".

In the game, players take up the role of janitors working for Aerospace Sanitation Inc., who are required to clean up blood and body parts from the bloody aftermath of a level. To 'complete' a level, players must clean up all the viscera, blood, bullet holes, and Trash in the level to an acceptable amount. To accomplish this, players are equipped with a mop, their gloved hands, and the sniffer device, which allows them to pinpoint the nearest object that must be removed. In certain levels, players may also use the shovel , laser welder, and broom to aid in this task. Players are also provided with a Personal Data Assistant (or "PDA" for short), which allows them to take notes on anything they may find in a level, or review the level's brief message.

Doing an acceptable job plus utilizing all stacking areas can theoretically earn the player the Employee of the Month Award in the Office, even if the cleanup job itself was not at 100%. Earning the Employee of the Month Award unlocks a Steam achievement for the Player. Earning the Award twelve times, unlocks the "Employee of the Year" achievement.

For those unaware, Viscera Cleanup Detail is a first-person game about cleaning up the bloody aftermath of a Doom-like space station. Shadow Warrior is a game about eviscerating a lot of dudes with a katana (or a giant purple dildo, if you prefer - and own Saints Row 4). Naturally the two go together.

Aerospace Sanitation .Inc have ties with every illegal operation and installation in the galaxy!
I've been sanctioned to cleanup 471 ungodly disasters over the last 36 years, always under complete secrecy.

Independent developer RuneStorm recently released the alpha version of Viscera Cleanup Detail: the space-station janitor simulator, which is a first-person cleanup game where players must mop up the mess and guts from an alien invasion.

Developed during an internal 10-day game jam, the first-person sandbox game is designed for Windows PC and its alpha is now available to download for free. Players take on the role of a janitor at a space-station, who must cleanup the gorey result of a battle between humans and aliens. Using a mouse and keyboard, players perform functions like fetching water buckets, mopping up blood spatters, picking up limbs and guts and putting them into biowaste buckets and picking up bullet fragments. It's tiring but rewarding work.

Pretty much every horror shooter these days ends with a space station smeared with blood and littered with organs. But what happens after that? Runestorm's Viscera Cleanup Detail envisions this scenario in excruciating detail as you don your best Breaking Bad gear to scrub away the stench of decay.
