Aerial is a macOS screensaver that lets you play videos from Apple's tvOS screensaver. This includes classic Aerial videos shot over various cities and locations (New York, San Francisco, China...), Earth videos from the ISS, and the new underwater videos introduced in tvOS 13. Starting with version 2.0, Aerial also includes videos from 3rd parties that kindly shared them, and you can also now add your own!

Aerial Companion (the app that auto-updates the screensaver) is getting a much needed makeover with a new UI. This is still in beta and the design will likely change a bit, but the goal is to make some more room to add new features.

The swimming porpoises don't look real. And the jellies look so uniform. Has anyone seen an explanation of how Apple produced the aerial (and underwater) screensavers? Actual video photography? Video enhancement? A.I.?

The Apple TV aerial saver has one underwater saver that looks rendered, the one of the horned sea stars in Borneo. As the sea stars get closer to the foreground, they look slighty suspended above the sand rather than partially in the sand, and the light/dark transitions at their edges makes them look digitally placed.

Is the "Los Angeles Beach" animated screensaver AI or CGI? Folks at LA beaches don't use umbrellas to this extent, let alone place them near the waterline. Also, the rides on the pier all move at the same slow speed. Something is "fishy"!

The Apple TV features Aerial screensavers, stunning slow-mo shots of various landmarks around the world. In tvOS 12, the aerials were expanded to include sweeping shots from the International Space Station. tvOS 13 added new underwater scenes including coral reefs and close-ups with shoals of fish and other ocean creatures.

The Apple TV periodically fetches new videos from an Apple server. This page interprets that data source and shows all the possible videos that the Aerial screensavers can include. This page is automatically refreshed and kept up-to-date as Apple adds new videos into the rotation.

In conjunction with Aerial 3's release, Josh Michael and Hal Bergman, who gifted 20 videos to the project last year, have released over four hours of video filmed in Monterey, New York and around American Southwest for purchase. The production process was reworked so that the content fits with Apple's official aerials, making them slower-paced and longer so they feel just right.

My current Apple TVs are still set to display aerial screensavers but the only one they have to show is the default (and relatively short) clip featuring a nighttime flight over downtown LA. No new screensavers are permitted to be downloaded.

Back in 2015, when Apple unveiled its fourth-generation set-top box for streaming apps, movies and shows, one of the standout features was how it could play gorgeous screensavers filmed in various spots around the globe in stunning 4K at 60 frames per second.

Apple actually used drones and helicopters to film those "Aerial" screensavers; in 2018, it added the International Space Station as a source to get incredible videos of our planet from above the atmosphere.

Officially, the Apple TV is the exclusive home for these incredible screensavers. But unofficially, there's an easy way to get all of Apple's Aerial screensavers on your computer, whether it's running Windows or Mac. Huge shout-out to developer John Coates, who built the open-source software that makes this possible.

Setting up your Apple TV with a screensaver that reflects your personal style is a straightforward process. This section guides you through accessing screensaver settings, selecting the type you prefer, and fine-tuning the screensaver to match your preferences.

If you have a new (4th generation) Apple TV, you've probably already noticed the stunning new Aerial screensavers that are available. These beautifully shot scenes show off our beautiful planet, at least a few locations (Hawaii, New York City, San Francisco, London, China and more).

As you can see in this example, the screensaver example was filmed in the Liwa Dune Fields in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (Or Tatooine in the Outer Rim Territories, excuse this little joke for the Star Wars fans out there).

If you loved those high resolution (1080p or 4K HDR), slow motion movies that are used for screensaver on Apple TV, you will love Aerial that bring these features for macOS (same movies, both day and night settings).

You love those high resolution, slow motion movies that are used as screensavers on the Apple TV? Aerial brings those same movies (1080p and 4K HDR) to your macOS systems to be used as screensavers with a few added bonus such as superimposing the weather, time, battery status (for a macbook) and so on.

The fourth-generation Apple TV gives you a number of different screensaver options. The newest and default is Aerial, which includes helicopter and drone footage of cities, landscapes, and other scenic wonders. If you want to change things up, though, you can switch to a more personal screensaver, including using all pictures in your Photo library.

For example, in the Red Bull TV screensaver example, short videos promoting their best content of the day are presented highlighting the best in extreme sports, culture, and lifestyle. Users can select the title of a promoted clip at the bottom of the screen to launch Red Bull TV and watch the full show or video.

In the Apple Movies screensaver, featured movies available for purchase or rental through their app are presented with parallax layering and motion. An ever present chevron at the bottom of the screen indicates to the user that they can swipe up on the Apple TV touch surface at any time to access more information about the movie along with actions to watch the trailer as well as purchase or rent the movie.

Our Apple Weather example is the least interactive. Here the screensaver displays localized weather based on the users location or a zip code entered in settings. Presented information includes current conditions, an hourly breakdown, and multi-day forecast. The background effects respond to current conditions similar to behavior in the iOS Weather app. Alternately, the background could feature localized city imagery adjusted for weather conditions or time of day.

Our take on screen burn-in is that the days of burn-in being the primary or only purpose of a screensaver are a generally a thing of the past. We are no longer considering CRT screens, which had serious issues with burn-in and image retention. The technologies of today have varying degrees of burn-in risk, but all are lower.

And the default "backdrop" screensaver on Android TV (and specifically the Shield TV , which is the only one we currently recommend) is pretty good, too. You get some great pictures of great places throughout the world. But it's just not the same.

You've got some options here, too. You can choose weather to show a clock and the location of the current screensaver. You can choose whether to view them randomly, or according to your local time, or whether you want to only see daytime or nighttime videos. You also can choose whether to cache the videos or not.

The new aerials feature beautiful shots of Patagonia, Yosemite National Park and the Grand Canyon. There are 4, 7 and 5 videos of each location, respectively. This is a big jump up from the zero new additions in tvOS 14 last year.

The Apple TV 4 is a very capable device when we speak of internals. Moreover, Apple has packed it with a bunch of goodies like a dedicated tvOS operating system and an App Store. This makes Apple TV more than just a standard media content streaming set top box. However, the company has not yet stopped in making it even better for users. One of the best features part of tvOS are screensavers. Now, the company has added 21 new Apple TV screensavers to make the viewing experience even more interesting. Let's see some more details on the new addition.

The new Apple TV screensavers are really impressive in all their might. They are displayed via the Apple TV in its complete 1080p glory. So how are the new Apple TV screensavers? The new screensavers showcases aerial view from different locations around the world. The new screensavers are part of the Apple TV which it will download at predefined breaks.

Apple TV screensavers are displayed in times of inactivity, whenever a user leaves the device on for a certain period of time. Anyone can take a look at these stunning aerial screensavers as 9to5mac has taken the liberty to share all the URLs. These URLs is what the Apple TV uses to download the screensavers. Moreover, since the Apple TV screensavers are just .mov files, anyone can view them in the video form. Even though the new screensavers have been released for the Apple TV, you can view or check out the screensavers directly on your iPhone, iPad and Macs as well.

The new screensavers looks absolutely stunning on a bigger display. Moreover, if you're a fan, you can set them up as your own desktop background image via the simple Terminal command. Judging on the bases of the 21 new screensavers, there is no doubt that Apple's video crew that operates drones has done a tremendous job in capturing aerial view of different locations from around the world. It's good to see Apple's efforts in making its set top box better with time.

So do see the 21 newly added Apple TV screensavers in all of their glory and also check out the great attention to detail. This is it for now, folks. What are your thoughts on the 21 new Apple TV screensavers? Do check out them out and let us know in the comments which ones you liked the most?
