I have installed 0.3.1 and noticed that the system tray icons, the
blue and the red, tend to display with noise behind them. I guess the
requires and explanation. In my lower right system display (Kubuntu,
Lucid, 64-bit) either the blue or the red Specto icons tend to show
inconsistent, tiny white-ish shapes just at the edge of the icon. It's
such a nice application and this display just doesn't seem to fit with
everything else. I actually tried replacing the default icon images
with slightly higher quality but that had no effect. No such problems
with other system tray icons. Hoping there is a solution.

Hi, can you provide a screenshot that clearly shows what's wrong? I somewhat doubt it's something we can do something about though.

I would be happy to try to do that if you are interested. I'm away from my home computer for a few days though. I have also started using the application as needed, or in other words, not running as though it were running as a system or always on service. I am more just interested to understand why that behavior might happen. Is it the .svg images or the .png images that are being used?

Hi John, sorry, I forgot to reply to your mail. Indeed, the SVG images are the ones being used for the icon in the notification area (as seen in lines 42-43 of trayicon.py).

Oh, ok. Thanks! Basically that's nice for me to know, and generous of you to reply. There's really no issue. As I said, if you were curious I'd send some screen pics but it might be some way in which vector vs raster (?) images work with the system tray, and memory management? Ok, that could be completely wrong naturally. As I said earlier, I now use Specto more or less several times a week, on demand to check for Web site or RSS updates. Thanks, John.

Well you can send a screenshot (make sure to crop it so that it doesn't weigh a ton!), I'm curious to see how it looks like, though I'm not sure what can be done since this is a SVG being used in a pretty standard way (with the gtk statusicon widget)...

Hej Jeff... I was all set to send you a screen pic, not too large, but the behavior isn't happening any longer. Something weird going on on my end at the time? Was just one of those things I noticed and I didn't want it to happen. So just wanted to let you know.

I noticed the behavior of the small image in the task panel, or system tray, whichever it is. Again, just sending this to you in case you're curious. Basically, I guess I let it sit for a bit and seems a grey area begins to grow around the image. The screen pic is very small as I cropped it. John.

How strange. Oh well, I guess there's nothing we can do about that... it
may be a bug in GTK+ or PyGTK regarding the use of the "notification area".

Ok cool, glad I was able to point something out. Great software, Specto is.
