Hi guys,

On new models created with species 1.6.1, I can not select the rig controllers using synoptic view bottom.
Are anyone else having this issue?

"ERROR : Object(s) missing. Failed to locate controls."

cheers,
José Carlos Poeiras

Hey Jose,

Im trying to recreate your issue.  Are you experiencing this with the PropRig, AnimRig or both?  Is the problem limited to the "Select All" button or other synoptic control.

Thanks

Hi Chris,

The problem is only with "select all" button, however in all synoptic panels

They only way I've found to reproduce your error so far is to completely delete all of the controls except the root Anim null.  Could this be an exported custom rig that your experiencing this with?  Have you deleted any controls from the rig, or does this happen with the "out of the box" PropRig as well?

Hi. I recently have this problem too. But only on the female animrig.
It happened straight away I think.

Thanks Robert.  This is actually happening for me as well for both Prop and AnimRigs for the female. I will log a bug and we will fix it soon.  For now, if you need to select all controls, expand the model null, right click on the Controls_Grp selection group and pick Select Members.

The issue has been fixed in our internal build and we will work to get a new release out shortly.

Hi Eric

I appreciate this was a while back.

1. Is 1.6.1 the last build (regarding your email comment of another release to follow)? I'm picking up an old model, just wanted to know if I'm using the latest version.

2. Are you guys going to continue with Species after last years news or will you continue like a few other developers?

3. If not, is that what Kraken is, a replacement on a more mobile base, ie. Fabric?

Regards
Clinton

Hi Clint,

1. Please see the attached .zip file. Please replace your Synoptic folder in the Species Addon directory with this one. (Best to delete the original, replace with this and not just overwrite).

2. Chris will have to speak to the current plans with Species.

3. Kraken is a rigging framework, a toolset, not a complete tool that can build rigs with a few clicks.

Hey Clinton,

To answer your question we have many plans for Species' future, including a port to Maya and a huge expansion in features.  Unfortunately, we are having trouble finding the time to do all of this, having to work full time.  We are currently seeking funding so we can devote our full attention to the project and get a viable Maya version out there.

Cheers!

Great news! This expansion in features, I hope it is not exclusive to Maya?

I also hope it is not just Maya. I couldn't afford and was in many ways unwilling to pay Autodesk any more money for squashing softimage.   I am sticking with softimage and hoping you guys are continuing to provide at least Softimage   Improvements.

Unfortunately, we can't really afford to put any more development into the Softimage version of Species at this time.  I'm as sore about Autodesk ending XSI as anyone, and I would love to be able to continue developing for it.  At this point though, it really doesn't seem feasible, especially if we're going after funding, i.e. whoever we get it from is not going to want us spending time developing for a platform thats been shelfed.

It would be very interesting to see Species in Houdini along some facial animation features - if you need to leave Softimage. As Houdini evolves (portable Houdini Engine, low cost Indie version for production, multi platform support, extensive dynamics - soft or rigid, cloth, fur, short hair, mantra rendering or the new RenderMan with Houdini,... ), this would make it a very attractive package.

Some kind of availability in Motion Builder would also be exciting.

Hey Chris -

Personally this is awesome news for me. Just curious do you have a clara.io or 3DS Max version planned at all?

In regards to the funding problem has this been resolved or no?

If not have you considered doing a crowdfunding campaign or something similar?

Just Curious -

Ben
