Hey folks,

I'd like to ask you what's your plan now with species, having this idiot company shutting down autodesk?
I use this tool in daily basis, and I'd hate not having it anymore...

Cheers

Hi Szabolcs,

With development on Softimage ending, we are looking to expand Species into more platforms.  The first will, unavoidably, be Maya, but I would like to see Species exist, or at least be easily supplemental to as many 3D apps as possible.

We are still in the process of figuring out the details, but we will keep everyone posted when we know more.

Thanks Chris!

As I (apprently) migrate to Maya as well, my Softimage license will be transportable, or not?

Cheers

As far as Im concerned, a license of Species is a license of Species and shouldnt discriminate between what platform you're using it on.

Would this mean I will be able to "send to maya" my enveloped species rig and vice versa. I know we can do that now but its not a one click affair. Also I forgot to put this in the survey but a send to to Motion builder and back pathway would be great.

I'm thinking of moving over to Houdini. Would be awesome to see species go there.
And... Blender is a top choice for Species to move across to for the independent Game developers. I'm not a fan of Blender myself, but know a lot of small companies using it.

+1 for species in houdini. I think that would be a real hit with me, and might be more straightforward to set up. I'm not a developer, so I can't t really speak with a great deal of experience. I've just used the auto rig with my zbrush meshes with a great deal of success.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, along with the responses we've been getting from the surveys, this info is very helpful.  Many of the platforms you've mentioned are on the table being considered and discussed.  Its going to be a long road with a lot of "reinventing the wheel" ahead but it will hopefully result in a much more versatile and accessible toolset.

I think Maya would be the best solution, but I'm also thinking to switch to Houdini, or maybe combine the two together...but right now I'll stick with Softimage, I'm too pissed off to learn another 3D app

Anyway it'll be great to see Species developed for Maya/Houdini/Modo/Blender...I'm also thinking if Fabric Engine would be the way to go, since, as far as I understood, Splice could be the answer to port the same rig to whatever app, correct?

I lost 4-5 jobs because my customer wanted the full rig ( not just the FBX skeletal rig ) inside Maya/Max, so be able to plug the rig from Fabric to most of the 3D app available it would be great!

Cheers
