Hello all,
I need to hide a cluster ( the head) and the head objects tongue, eyes, teeth and gums, but I am having a difficult time figureing out where to do that and understanding where I hide the animation rig geometry.

Could someone give me a bit better understanding of how to hide the visible mesh and if there are multiple resolution meshes that need to be hid?  I am point cashing a face robot head to the mesh with a cluster ( detached head) that I am making invisible.

So I have:
1. made cluster on the animation rig for the head
2. detached it and used face robot
3. animated in face robot
4. left facerobot, applied point cache to detached head
5. used a cluster to hide the same head geometry from view as used in face robot on the animation mesh
6. I am trying to now, hide the eyes, tongue, upper and lower teeth and gums (of animation mesh) so only the new facerobot mesh with point cache applied is visible.
7.  It looks like I should then use a cage deformer to attach head to body.

Thanks for any help you can offer me--feel free to correct me if this is a dumb way of doing this :)

Hi John,

You can affect the visibility of the meshes of either the Prop or AnimRig using the selection groups found under the model null.  All of the High res meshes are included in the group called GeoRndr_Grp.  If you click on the purple icon of the selection group a window with several options for visibility and selectability should appear.

Here you can set the view and render visibility of the group to Show Members, Hide Members, or No Effect on Members.  If you want to affect each mesh individually, I'd suggest setting it to No Effect, which frees you to hide and unhide each mesh using the H key.

Keep in mind, if you use the Res or Selectability buttons found in the synoptic views this will set the corresponding options for the whole group i.e. if you have the low res meshes visible and hit the + Res button, it will set the GeoRndr_Grp to Show Members, unhiding any meshes you have selectively hidden.  You can always go into the groups options and set it back to No Effect.

Alternatively, you can create your own selection group for just the objects you'd like to hide.  Simply select all the meshes you want to group together and hit Ctrl+G.  It will likely create the group outside the model null of the rig so you just need to drag and drop it into the model in an explorer window.  If you hide this group, it should stay hidden regardless of what you do with original GeoRndr_Grp  or Res synoptic options.

The visibility settings of the groups should not affect your ability to hide any clusters you made on a specific mesh.

Hope this helps!

-Chris
