Greetings Linguists!
I’m pleased to announce that Volume CXCIV, Number 1 of Speculative Grammarian, originally published in July of 2024, is now available.
This issue offers many excellent articles, including an exciting announcement of a sesquidecennial refresh of our “Mad Libitum” templated linguistic humor, a compelling argument that PIE is, in fact, the only proto-language, and revealing insights into a linguistics department through the lens of recent meeting minutes—along with the usual collection of letters from our readers, insightful advice, breaking news, limericks, serendipitous fieldwork, book announcements, linguistickish puzzles—surprise! Norman Invasion!—and more...
Call for Papers
SpecGram is still seeking witty, erudite papers in satirical linguistics that demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the field of linguistics as a whole, a subtle wit, and a refined sense of written language. However, as those kinds of papers are pretty hard to come by, SpecGram is accepting papers that are moderately clever, can be edited into some passable form, and don’t rely too heavily on bodily function humor.
We have published satirical and humorous articles, poems, cartoons, ads, and all sorts of other material—and no field within or related to linguistics is off limits. SpecGram always has been and always will be free, and everything we do is built on submissions from readers and donated time from editors and other supporters. So, if you have something worthy of the premier scholarly journal featuring research in the neglected field of satirical linguistics, submit it! If not, please donate a little time and pass the word along.

As always, comments, questions, suggestions, and submissions are welcome!
Enjoy!
