I would like to make a suggestion to ebay as we are spending a lot of time with customers asking for receipts for their purchases , can eBay send the customer a copy of a receipt when they order so we can avoid making one for the customers, we don't print receipts as we were duplicating paperwork so can the customer automatically receive a receipt for their purchases and have the option to print a receipt.
Too be honest eBay should make printing an invoice easy as we really shouldn't have to find ways around eBay not automatically sending receipts , on our own website we automatically send a link on how to print an invoice.
Currently its about a quarter of our ebay customers and when they ask for an invoice we upload instructions as it seems a lot of people don't know how to print invoices, could be a UK ebay problem , I have noticed the US site is easier to use.
Hi Ebay Withhold my Fund and request Receipts from my listing. I have 600+ with 100% positive feedback. Been eBay member since 07. All of the sudden eBay freeze my account and withhold my money and request for receipts. I did send them multiple receipts from Liquidation company that I bought my Items from to resale it on eBay. As you may know that Liquidation or over stock company do not itemize out what they sold. They sell it to you as a lot or as quantity. You will never know what you'll receive. Having said that I provided eBay with my whole year of receipts that I purchased from liquidation company. The receipts showed the location and date the quantity and how much I paid for. The problem here Is eBay is asking me for receipts of each item I sell on eBay. How do I do that? Any legal advice please help out. I feel like they're going overboard on this.
Of dear, this sounds like it could be the kiss of death. I think it's overreaching to want Individual receipts when you buy in bulk. Maybe they're trying to force everyone to source their inventory from eBay's BULQ program.
Years ago we used to go to the auctions, bid & buy pallets of unclaimed freight, salvage and overstock. We were given itemized receipts as well. That's just my experience here where I live. Other liquidators may be different. Never had any problems selling that merchandise on Ebay. Times have changed no doubt.
A lot of the items I flip I pickup at estate and garage sales and most don't provide receipts and those that do are very generic and do not specify individual items. It's a tough situation to be in and about all you can do is try to satisfy eBay's request. As ckimodog mentioned contact eBay through the facebook connection as the customer call center is basically useless. I agree that eBay may be going a bit overboard with this and they need to be a little flexible with their review of the information provided. I hope you resolve this issue soonest and are able to return to your selling activities.
You are selling NEW goods. Like over at Amazon, if you sell enough, you are expected to provide receipts from a manufacture OR a wholesaler/distributor. Liquidators don't count, they break the chain of custody for goods. If you can't provide receipts that prove chain of custody, you will end up ban hammered.
Ok, but I was alive before the Internet and digital payments were a thing. We used to buy things in cash from stores -- stores that gave out thermal paper receipts with no digital record -- and we didn't think there would come a time when the IRS would hunt us down for having to sell our Ninja Turtles toys.
You don't have to have receipts for items that you inherited or owned personally. If you can't use receipts to establish the cost basis then you use the fair market value when they were acquired or inherited, which means the date the estate was settled. This can also be used in other situations where receipts are not available (e.g. bartered, exchanged, or no records). You need to determine the fair market value consistently, and follow standard accounting procedures. See IRS Publication 551:
Ok, I am pretty sure the fair market value only applies to when you acquire it and if asked, you have to have some evidence of when and how much you purchased an item for or the cost basis is zero. There was a 2010 court case essentially about this exact situation, except the seller was selling a lot more than a few items. Nevertheless, the lack of receipts meant they owed the full tax burden.
As an addendum to another response, I have several times received feedback, complaints, INRs, cases for OTHER peoples stuff, even though I do include receipts! I can't imagine how bad it would be if I didn't!
The items in question are miniature games that I bought both from retailers and secondhand over the course of a few years. Some sales were complete items on eBay, some where smaller components from larger sets sold individually. Overall, between eBay/PayPal fees, shipping and original purchase price, it was likely at a very slim profit or a loss. But I do not have receipts for anything beyond eBay shipping and sales fees. Do I have to claim this as income?
I guess youre referencing my presale of castle in forests. Yes, it was probably unwise. My calculus was that theyre not high value items and i have direct receipts for them (at least 5 of them) but yeah, im gunna tread more lightly after seeing that 2.5M seller KO'd with no possibility of readmission.
I think the marketplaces are well-intentioned for asking for proof, but the whole exercise is pointless when the vast majority of invoices/ receipts are not even given human review or when they are it is by a non-native English speaker working in India who risks being fired for taking too long to make a judgement call and certainly doesn't have the time to follow up with information (e.g. phone calls, emails, etc.)
Getting your eBay and Amazon receipts is a straightforward process that ensures you have the necessary records for your online shopping activities. These records serve various purposes, from warranty claims to expense tracking and account security. Following the steps outlined in this guide, you can easily access and organize your purchase history and receipts, making your online shopping experience more convenient and secure.
However, if you are making sales independently, in addition to sales made through a marketplace facilitator and your total gross receipts, including those made through the Marketplace facilitator exceed $100,000, you will need to register and collect and remit tax to the Department on the sales made separately from what is reported by the marketplace facilitator.
Amazon maintains an order history in your online account, enabling you to retrieve detailed information on business purchases when you need it. This order history includes an invoice feature that allows you to print a copy of your order receipt. Print these receipts as proof of your expenditures so that you can be reimbursed by your company or claim tax write-offs for your business expenses.
When a payment is made using PayPal, the buyer is presented with a payment acknowledgement -- with an option to print it -- and a receipt confirmation email is automatically generated and sent to both the buyer and purchaser. While you can fully customize the payment page that is displayed during checkout -- change the colors, for example, or add your logo -- PayPal doesn't offer customization or resend options for receipts issued from completed transactions.
In some cases, you may not have access to receipts. For example, you may run a store on eBay that sells second-hand goods. In that case, your records may look different from that of a more traditional business. Thankfully, HMRC takes each business on a case-by-case basis and considers unusual factors when reviewing tax documents and tax returns.
In addition to receipts, there are several other types of records that may help you explain business expenses. Valid proofs of purchase are official, detailed records that confirm your payments as business expenses to HMRC. In addition to receipts, official contracts and invoices are also considered valid proofs of purchase.
If reviewing your records for business transactions is too much of a headache, you can always apply for flat-rate simplified expenses instead. That way, you can receive an income tax reduction without having to hunt down old receipts to see exactly how much you spent.
This is not the first I've heard of consumer sellers being asked to provide receipts for personal items they may have bought long ago. That's going to pose a particular challenge as eBay CEO Jamie Iannone says he's leaning in to second-hand goods and collectibles - precisely the kinds of items sellers are unlikely to have manufacturer receipts for.
The collection of Dowty family papers include letters, receipts from church and related to a farm, mortgage documents, and other material. Most of the letters are addressed to Falls City, Nebraska with others addressed to or from Missouri and Oregon. People sending or receiving letters include: Lydia Dowty (perhaps later Mrs. Lydia Peck), Mr. And Mrs. Allison Dowty, George Ferguson, Mary Dowty, and others.
