this week - i'd be interested in ur views - cos I just am soooooooo

indian music don't think that indian music is good
enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but before I even read that article, I honestly believe that the
recent wave of supposed bollywood hits seem to be crap. I would not
even want anyone to hear it really. the recent injection of new age
mixing of tracks seem to be wasting away the good classics really. I
am yet to think of one track I can honestly say grabs me. Also
remember that the lotus fm playlists are more co-ordinated according
to requirements of giving airplay to specific movies etc to ensure a
biased popularity ranking of latest hits - typical marketing ploy
really, more you hear it, that is what you will buy (illegally or
legally) - and lets not forget that the some of the tracks that are
mixed are even more painful to hear. I generally am quite content with
my ipod and MY selection of tracks. I would like to hear more of Atif
Aslam, DJ Ravin, more classic tracks then more of this hogwash tracks
that get mixed here in SA. Thats my rant and rave for the day.

also an example I would give is something like Anwar the movie
released in 2006, I particularly thought that the one track off that
movie should have been a hit. But I noticed that only recently this
track started getting airplay. hmmm.

well - i have some major gripes with the station in terms of music -
the reason i want to listen is that it really is the station that
caters for indian music - but more and more the music is not indian -
in fact one of the dj's told me his mandate is to include western
music on his programme. Why is it that the whole world wants indian
except those involved in managing south africa's only national indian
music broadcaster

then again the inclusion of a broader array of cultures is not a bad
idea. Its worth the effort really. actually time it happened. will
give the station a bit of an edge it needs to contend with the other
national radio stations. I would hope to see the likes of Rakesh
rising to the occasion and getting his image sorted out and becoming
the equivalent to that of 5fms approach to their market audience of 22
- 35 age group which I think he can handle very well.

its not bad to include some good decent tracks from a particularly
western influence. Its a marketing grab to get your listeners who are
die hard fans of classics .... for example - maybe some listeners
liked a hit song from Dirty Dancing, now for them it holds a special
meaning - maybe they lost their virginity at the back of the boys dads
car down by angelo's or sea belles or conceived their kid. Now those
parents who listen to it - it brings back memories LOL. now back to
the discussion. The whole world should be involved in the management
of the station and its content really. After the exit of the people
that really should have stayed - Amitha Anand, Devi Sankaree etc.

Then you have some of the management and some of the DJ's more
interested in planning their extra mural activities based on resources
from the station. That pisses me off and I know others that are
mislead quite nicely from these supposedly WOO HOO parties that they
DJ at.

well i know what u're speaking off. my argument is this - the purpose
of the station is to play indian music - it is teh only pbs station to
cater for this genre - i can listen to any other kind of music on most
other stations - but the only national broadcaster that caters for
indian music is lotus fm - if we now start to play other genres - i
would stop listening to lotus - because they're giving me the same
crap that the other stations are......... there's no point....... i
think it's sad that they're so intent on loosing their indian identity
- but then again - i suppose most people don't think much of that that
identity any more,

by the way - apart from all the other points u make about the
annoucers - i think perhaps the quality of the announcers should also
be a concern - their english pronounciation and grammer is atrocious -
and don't even mention teh venacular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but that's just
my opinion
