Dear All,
The NALSAR Literary and Debating Committee is pleased to invite you to the 4th Edition of the Westlaw NALSAR Inter Varsity Debating Championship (“NALSAR IV ”) from 20th to 23rd September 2013. Having successfully introduced British Parliamentary Debating to India for the first time in April 2011, the NALSAR IV became the biggest student-run and -attended debate in any format in India in April 2012 and in October 2012, it returned in the prime of the international BP season to serve as a preparatory tournament ahead of the WUDC at Berlin, 2012-‘13.
And now the NALSAR IV is back again to open the BP season in India which will lead up to the Chennai Worlds in December.
Our commitment to quality adjudication is evident from our past adjudication cores that comprised of past Worlds Co- CA Sharmila Paramanand from the Manila University in Phillipines, Past Worlds CA Harish Natarajan from Cambridge and Past Worlds DCA Suthen ‘Tate’ Thomas from MMU in Malaysia. The last edition of the NALSAR IV, held in October, had an adjudication core that comprised of the most skilled adjudication talent that the international debating circuit has to offer : Jens Fischer , the Master of Tabs at WUDC 2013, CA at EUDC 2006, chair of the World Debating Council in 2011 and a breaking judge in all the WUDC and EUDC championships since 2009 ; James Kilcup from Loyola Marymount University, the winner of Cork IV, Stanford IV, Claremont open and a finalist at Canadian British Parliamentary Championships, Cambridge IV (twice!), Yale IV and the Hart House IV; Mabroor Wassey, a towering figure in the Bangladeshi Debating circuit, a member of the adjudication core in the OIC debates and at the Asians BP ,Chair of the Bangladesh Debating Council and one of the founding members of the English Debate movement in Bangladesh,; and finally Eashan Ghosh from NLSIU who has served as a member of the adjudication core at several national tournaments including St Stephens (Mukarji Memorial) 2012, PEC open 2011 and ’12 and NLU-D (Prof. Ghanshyam Singh Memorial) 2011 and ’12 apart from being part of the shadow adjudication core at AUDC 2009.
We promise to keep up our constant endeavor to ensure the highest standards of adjudication at the event for the coming edition of the NALSAR IV. We shall announce the Core Adjudicators for the 4th edition of the IV soon. Already confirmed is Ben Woolgar, Best speaker at Manila Worlds (WUDC 2012) and CO-CA, Oxford IV, and one of the most high profile names on the debating circuit.
Past participants can attest to the superior quality of the NALSAR IV experience (in all respects!) and the fourth edition of the Westlaw NALSAR IV Debating Championship promises to be not only a bigger tournament but also a more competitive one. Our commitment to better ourselves at delivering a thoroughly enjoyable debating experience continues unabated- we promise comfortable accommodation, a fantastic break night event, good debates that miraculously run on schedule, high quality adjudication and incredible prize money (we gave away Rs. 1,50,000/- last time, and are feeling even more generous this time around).
