This looks like a great project! Are there any plans to support
cygwin?

Yes. As I wrote on the main page, I (and other people in our group)
work on the femhub project:

http://femhub.org/

where I rewrote the buildsystem from scratch, so that it allow you to
install as many or as few packages as you need.

Last time I tried, the basic packages (like python) installed in
cygwin, but given my little time, I can't push it more at the moment.
If you are interested, please join our project and we'll help you as
much as we can to get femhub working in cygwin.
