I lost my copy and the administrator of the proteomics center is on
vacation. My email is sunforum at gmail dot com. Your help is much
appreciated.

Sorry I did not make it clear enough in the first message.
XRawfile2.dll is used for Thermo Finnigan raw file conversion to mzXML
format. If you have Xcalibur installed, it can found under
Xcalibur\system\program directory. Thanks!

I believe that this file is part of Xcalibur. You should probably reinstall Xcalibur or contact them directly about obtaining this file.

Thanks David. I got a copy of the file. However, when I tried to load
the file with command 'regsvr32 c:\XRawfile2.dll', an error message
popped up saying 'fail to load library (c:\XRawfile2.dll) The specified
module could not be found'. Did anyone have similiar problem? THanks

I'm not sure if this is your problem but you will need more than just
that one dll even though that's the only one you need to register. As
David mentioned, your best bet is to install Xcalibur to get all of the
necessary files.

Most likely the Excalibur install program initiates several needed registry settings, and it's also likely that the DLL in question
accesses other Excalibur DLLs. Your easiest and probably only route is to just install Excalibur, although I understand that's not
much help to you in the near term, sorry.

I am not sure what regsvr32 is for, but it sounds like the file cannot be found at the specified location (or the permissions on this file are too restrictive). Can you verify that you can actually see this file directly under c:\ ?

The licence of Xcalibur belongs to our proteomics center and I can not
install another copy to our computers due to the licensing restriction.
According to the readme file downloaded along with the t2x file, I
should get a copy of the XRawfile2.dll and load it to system using
'regsvr32 path/XRawfile2.dll'. But the loading procedure failed.
I also suspect XRawfile2.dll might have dependency on other modules
loaded with the Xcalibur installation. But the readme file did not
mention it at all. Just wonder if it's possible that the authors of the
readme file did not actually try to load the single dll file?

I just went hunting for any readme files and the only one I see
associated with ReAdW.exe (which is the t2x successor) is the ReadMe.txt
automatically generated by some Microsoft AppWizard within the VC++
sources and that one has no mention of registering DLLs. Otherwise,
everything else within the ReAdW section are direct links to single
binary files:
http://sashimi.sourceforge.net/software_glossolalia.html

Can you point me to the readme file that you downloaded with t2x?

In short if you are attempting to go down this route, you do only need
to register this particular one DLL but the other 60+ have to be
present. However, I'm not sure how you can justify installing a copy of
the DLLs given the licensing restrictions on Xcalibur which are keeping
you from installing Xcalibur itself.

The readme file comes with the ReAdW package that can be found here:
http://tools.proteomecenter.org/ReAdW.php

Download the ReAdW_15-10-2004.tgz, uncompress it, and you'll find
readme.txt in one of the folders.

You can also find the exactly same file on the proteomecenter.org:

http://www.proteomecommons.org/archive/1107668885271/ReadMe.txt

As to the licensing issue, yeah I kinda think it's a gray area. We have
read through the agreement and it did not explicitly prohibit copying
out a single library file that does not bear the functions of the
software. If it's not OK I guess we better not do it this way.
