Hi all. I have tried to install TPP on a different computer in the
lab. On searching ActiveState's website for the required version of
ActivePerl, I have discovered that it is no longer available. A quick
search with Google for an alternative source of the installer has
turned up nothing. Would anyone be able to direct me to a source?
Version 5.8.9.827 does not work with the installer.

With the publication of the papers recently, I think a few more people
will be needing this.

I see that in the current TPP (4.3.1) installer, we say " TPP requires ActivePerl version 5.8.8 or 5.10.x (available for free ActiveState, but we are not allowed to distribute it directly). Please install ActivePerl from [... ]  and try the TPP installer again."  However I see that the links we gave for ActiveState pointed to specific versions of Perl. We don't have any control over the ActiveState website, so the link shouldn't be so specific and we should just point to the top of the ActiveState website and let the user find the perl downloads themselves.  This was probably a case of trying to be helpful (by pointing to then-current Perl downloads directly) and then getting bitten by changes in an external website.

Thanks for pointing this out and we'll change the link for future releases.  For now, the text of the message remains true: any recent 5.8 (5.8.8 or greater) or 5.10.x version will work fine.

Hi Natalie. The other versions of ActivePerl will not let TPP install, at least not the three different versions I tried yesterday including 5.8.9.827. All came up with the message described in your email. If they have worked fine for other installs, what have I managed to do wrong? The process seems fairly idiotproof.

Hi Matt,

Have you tried ActivePerl 5.10.1.build 1006 (this is one of the recent builds about 3-4 months back i guess)?
I am running TPP on this version and installation was smooth.

I am using  TPP v 4.3 on Windows Vista Home premium (HP laptop) ("TPP_Setup_v4_3_JETSTREAM_rev_0.exe" windows installer) and XP pro service pack 3. Both machines work fine and have the same Activeperl version i mentioned.

Hi Amit,

Thanks for the information. I am not sure if my issue is because of Active Perl version... but incase if you have any idea...?

I am using "TPP_Setup_v4_3_JETSTREAM_rev_1",  "ActivePerl-5.8.9.827-MSWin32-x86-291969", Apache 2.2.14 on "Win XP Professional Ver 2002 sp2".

I am trying to write data files to mapped network drive (example Y:) and have exact copy from C:\Inetpub\wwwroot and C:\Inetpub\tpp-bin on Y: drive.

When I click "Run XInteract" all processes work fine InteractParser, PeptideProphetParser, ProphetModels.pl, DatabaseParser, RefreshParser.

But, it gets stuck on PepXMLViewer.cgi... while creating *.xml.index file forever..

"running: "Y:/Inetpub/wwwroot/../tpp-bin/PepXMLViewer.cgi -I y:/Inetpub/wwwroot/ISB/data/SAN/server1/Test_Executer/research/Test_2_interact.xml""

Output : It writes blank space

Did you refresh the page? Sometimes the command has run and the browser times out. Refreshing will show the actual status. If it didnt help, try running xinteract from command line and give full file paths for your input and output files.
Hope it helps.

Hi,

Thanks for your time, some relief.... but few issues.... it will be nice if you have any clue.

After clean installatin of "TPP_Setup_v4_3_JETSTREAM_rev_1", "ActivePerl-5.8.9.827-MSWin32-x86-291969" "Apache 2.2.14" on WinXP ver2002 sp2, I am somehow able to write data files to network drive.

All the processes run fine, I can also see the files under specific path of Z: drive
"results written to file z:/Inetpub/wwwroot/ISB/data/SAN/Test_Executer/research/Test_ZZZ_interact.xml
direct your browser to
http://server123:1441/ISB/data/SAN/Test_Executer/research/Test_ZZZ_interact.shtml"

Issue:
a) When I try to browse the above url, IE 6 hangs and I get the message At the top of the page I get the error: Messages
"Unable to access xml file via webserver, so cannot check xml file for changes ()  Check webserver configuration if desired.  (URL: undefined)"
b) On each click and whon clicking "Run XInteract" button blank command window appears and closes, is it because of any classpath/ configuration issue

Please suggest what I am missing..

Hi Vishal,

If the command has run, then try using a text editor to open the xml files.
i am better off with commandline and text editors. Somehow I fail to get the hang of interface (haven't devoted time there).
Faced the same problem (i have all latest browsers on my system).
Probably the file size is too much to handle for the browser. Try a text editor, browsers aren't meant to deal with huge files.

Hi Amit,

I had a discussion with senior management and we will be using Chrome or firefox which looks much better.

I am still trying to figure out point (b).
