Dear Professor Thambu Maniam,
Suicide Prevention Awareness Ribbon

For this year’s World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), 10 September 2016, we are delighted to confirm we are launching, alongside our partners, a universal suicide prevention awareness ribbon.  Our wish is for the suicide prevention awareness ribbon to become globally recognisable, much like other ribbons for other worthwhile causes.

Following research of ribbons and colours used to signify suicide prevention awareness around the world, yellow and orange were the two predominant colours used.  We have therefore put together a ribbon using these colours; please see above.

The two toned ribbon is also indicative of a candle flame.  This ties in nicely with “Light a Candle”, a WSPD activity, as well as the candlelit walks many arranged around the globe.  We also believe it works well with the “Out of the Darkness into the Light” walks and other activities arranged for WSPD.

We would be delighted if you would join with us and support this initiative. In uniting behind a shared universal ribbon, we hope to increase awareness of suicide prevention further.

Please feel free to use the ribbon avatar on social media for WSPD.  If you wish, please also feel free to make and distribute some ribbons to promote WSPD.

This year’s theme for WSPD is Connect, Communicate and Care. All information for WSPD can be found on our website https://www.iasp.info/wspd/index.php.

Yours sincerely
