Problem saving edits after using merge function

When I try to merge two polygons together in an edit session the saves don't get passed through to the database? If i manipulate vertices, it works fine, if I copy and paste polygons, it saves fine. But if I merge two polygons, then try and edit, it doesn't get saved properly.

Any thoughts?
