check_sql_stmt fails on OSX 10.11.6

I'm trying to install libspatialite on OSX 10.11.6, using brew. The check_sql_stmt fails during the install. The homebrew recipe uses libspatialite version 4.3.0a.

The brew command is:

brew install --build-from-source -disable-lwgeom --disable-gcp -v libspatialite

Has anyone else had success with this?
