Hi,

I cannot make Windows to open .sqlite files automatically with
Spatialite-gui. It did work for me with Spatialite-gui 1.4.1 but not
with version 1.5.0. The normal way Open with - [browse and select
spatialite-gui.exe] and checking the box to use program always for
opening .sqlite files just does not work. I have tried with Windows
Vista (32-bit) and XP and they both behave in a similar way. Could the
exe file be somehow such that is cannot be registered or could there
be something to correct in the Windows registry keys?

Hi Jukka,

I've tested this using 1.5.0-STABLE on both Win7-Pro (64 bit)
and XP (virtual machine, 32 bit); it works, I see no problem at all.

may well be ;-)

I managed to get automatic opening to work be renaming
spatialite_gui.exe into spatialite.exe. After that Windows behaved
normally and I could make the connection. But it was not because of
underscore in the name because I have no problems to make a connection
with spatialite_tool.exe. Only difference I can see is that these
older *_.exe files do not have a special icon before the filename like
the new Spatialite_gui executable has. Really odd but it works now
for me with renamed binary.

Jukka,

what do you intend for "special icon" ?
on my own Win I see no special icon at all associated
to the *.exe file; I simply see the usual spatialite
icon (globe, ring and feather), exactly as it was for
any previous version

For example spatialite_tool.exe shows only some generic Windows icon.
I thought it was the same with older versions of spatialite_gui but it
just seems to take a few seconds before it appears before unzipping
the exe file to my test directory. So that was wrong observation from
me, old spatialite_gui versions have the same globe-ring-feather icon.
I noticed that the binary in old versions is named spatialite-gui.exe
but in 1.5.0 spatialite_gui.exe. One way for me to make registering
succeed is to rename the 1.5.0 binary also as spatialite-gui.exe. But
it may be a registry problem because if I fail with registering my
computer triest to open .sqlite files with Acrobat reader.

Jukka,

I had exactly the same problem and found that I had to update the
registry manualy when replacing with a new spatialite-gui.exe file:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/problems-with-file-association-in-windows-7-64-bit/8a84fcec-22df-4942-8e35-d98dbe96e327

best luck!
