As regards the first option I have found that adobe will not supply CS5.5 onlt CS6. Even if you start off on a download screen which refers to 5.5 it changes to 6. In my call to adobe support I was told the same thing, that I could not get 5.5 and the only way to do it was borrow a disk from a friend or prevail upon a reseller to let me have one. It does seem unusual to me that a major software company drops an old version so soon after a new release.

This error is related to every newer version of Dreamweaver (CS5, CS6, CC). First it hangs when i start dreamweaver for about 20-30 seconds. After that it starts to hang when i finish writing something. I can write one line then wait 2 seconds and it starts to hang. It also hangs when i save files.

We renamed the DW file to "old dreamweaver" & followed the rest of the steps that Ben outlined above. The location that Nancy outlined for me helped give him a frame of reference to be able to help me.

The script above helps with most cleanup, but occasionally I find there are straggler folders and Adobe files left laying around. I've successfully used a find command and removes anything *adobe*, but you must be VERY careful or it will remove files and folders with the word "adobe" in it, or if you have any mounted volumes and you start at root (/), it WILL remove from there too. Here's the echo version for safety. You can change echo to rm -r if you feel dangerous.
