Just released: an e-Book (pdf, ePub, Mobi-Kindle) version of Fifty Enterprise architect Tricks. Available at http://bit.ly/AquJuE

Bonus:
There's a free chapter (about 20% of the book contents) to download, and e-version buyers get updates of the book for free.

It's not quite the only book about Enterprise Architect. I've seen one although it was in Japanese. There are also a number of books primarily about Process, that specifically use EA features and use EA for examples throughout.

Still, looking at your table of contents, it looks like there are some worthwhile tips there and I hope it continues to sell for you.

Here's one tip that did not make it into the book: http://www.aboriginemundi.com/index.php/2011/04/ea-tricks-a-bunch-of-relations/

Hi,

I am author of the book. About 3,000 copies of the book were sold in Japan, but now it is out of print. (The ISBN of the book was 978-4434110177.)

I learned that printed books are not suitable for EA because the content is soon getting old. Now we (Sparx Japan) offer basic and simple usage guide (B5/32p) as PDF for free.

Indeed, printed media are not really suited for quicly evolving software like Enterprise Architect.

That's one of the main reasons I turned to Leanpub: updates are for free and they will be announced automatically to readers.

The other main reason is cost. Printing & shipping costs a lot of money. With digital media, that is no longer the case. This means I can offer the ebook for one third of the price of the printed book.

Here's another tip that I did not include in the book. It explains how to remove connector stereotypes of information items conveyed by the connector:

I've just published an update to the book (there was a figure missing in trick 47 - printing large diagrams, which is now fixed).

I am pondering the idea to add a bonus chapter to the e-book, including some tips that are available on my website. Do you think that would be a good idea?

This is a great piece of work, and has been needed for a long time.

@mrpmorris: you can consult a complete table of contents here: http://bit.ly/EATricks (there's a free to download sample chapter too).

I did not yet write about generating source code from EA, because I don't use EA for that. All the tricks I write about are from my own experience.

I am planning to write a separate chapter about how to develop your own toolbox in EA (which is an advanced subject).

Some of the tricks are really simple, but it's often the simple tricks that bring you lots of value. Of course, I steer away from really evident things like how to open the notes of an element.

Hope that helps.

Just released a new version of the book Fifty Enterprise Architect Tricks, with a third tip in bonus chapter 3.

Important note:

SparxSystems has decided to release version 10 of Enterprise Architect, with significant changes to the user interface and functionalities of EA. This means I will have to rework the book Fifty Enterprise Architect tricks.

On the other hand, I keep on getting requests for another book on Enterprise Architect. Requests for an easy to read, easy to bring into practice introduction for new users.

I have decided to write such a book. It is called "Teach Yourself Enterprise Architect in Ten Days". The first chapter (of 10) is ready. A preview including the introduction and the first chapter is available for free at the Leanpub website (https://leanpub.com/EA-in-10-days).

This does not mean I will let current readers of Fifty Enterprise Architect down:

  • I will by all means finish the third and final bonus chapter during the following weeks, before the release of the official version of Enterprise Architect

  • All readers of Fifty Enterprise Architect Tricks get a significant discount on the new book

  • When the new book is ready, I will start adapting Fifty Enterprise Architect Tricks to the new EA version

Final trick on what MDG Technologies are and how to repair a seemingly lost MDG Technology.

Fifty Enterprise Architect Tricks now contains 80 tips and tricks. It was written for EA versions below 10.x. Since version 10.x brings lots of changes to EA, I will have to rework the book significantly.
