Hello Alan,

Thanks for all your efforts and support in developing SparkSDR.  I've enjoyed it immensely.

Ran into a problem this morning and wanted to let you know. Upgraded to version 2.0.966 on a system running Debian 12 Bookworm.  Found the audio to be "choppy" and was unable to tell if it was related to pulse audio or if the app was losing communication with the HL2.  Watching the display, I could see "drop-outs" that corresponded to the choppy audio.

Machine I'm running Spark on is a Dell 9020 with I7 processor and 16 GB RAM.

I uninstalled and went back to version 2.0.33.  No problems with that release.

Could be related to my PC I guess.  I have not tried the Windows version o 2.0.966 yet.

Thanks,

Karl - W5QJ

Hi Karl,
the audio code has changed but should have made things better with multiple receivers and no difference with one, that does not mean I've not got something wrong though:) Another change is a new version of Avalonia (the magic that makes spark work cross platform) that some have reported has higher cpu usage on linux. I'd be very iterested to hear if your cpu usage has gone up which might cause this.  I'm away at the moment with only a windows machine, when I get back I'll look at high linux cpu and test the linux audio.

Hi Karl,
just reread your message and if drop outs are appearing on the display that could well cause it, is the ep6 counter indicating anything?

Alan,

I'll uninstall version 2.0.33 this afternoon.  Before doing so, I'll take a couple of screen captures showing ep6 and system loading.

Then will repeat with the latest version and then reinstall version 2.0.33.

Thanks,

Alan,

Please take a look at the two captures.  First is 2.0.33.

spark 2.033.jpg
Second is 2.0.966

spark 2.0.966.jpg

2.0.966 installs a dependency not needed by 2.0.33.

Some minor additional CPU load with 2.0.966 but don't think that is the issue (7% with 2.033 and 10% with 2.0.966).  Also slight increase in memory usage with 2.0.966.

Was unable to catch the "drop-outs" with a screen capture, but they definitely exist.

Waterfall trace with 2.0.966 much more distinct than with 2.0.33.

Reinstalled 2.033 and all is well.

Thanks,

Karl - W5QJ
