adjusting mic gain?

FOlks,
I’m using spark SDR with an re-320 microphone, and an anan 10e. I’ve been working with about 5% compression, and I’m told that I have some artifacts in my signal, and it was suggested that I bring the mic gain up, and not worry about compression. How do I adjust the mic gain? Also is there a command that I can do to make this work from the command line so that I don’t have to worry with the interface since it is not running in the background?
