Just a heads up, I have recently acquired a rare RPi5-8gb (Raspberry Pi
5) for Xmas. SparkSDR 2.0.33 installs flawlessly, as does WSJT-X 2.6.1

Thank you for the heads-up!

I have had a Pi5 for a few weeks now since I couldn't help myself and did the magazine subscription to get one early.

I wasn't able to get it to work with much beyond the desktop software so I put it away until I saw your note saying you were able to get SparkSDR working.

The trick for me was to start all over with the new image on the Pi site dated December 5, 2023.

Before I did that, I had all kinds of problems with 'apt' and package dependencies, it kept saying it could not install several packages that I needed.

It could be that some file got corrupted on the Pi, who knows, all I know starting over meant it could now find packages it could not find before.

Starting over has let me install wsjt-x using 'apt' then install the SparkSDR 2.0.33.linux-arm64.deb image using 'dpkg -i' *after* installing libportaudio2 using 'apt'.

Happy SDR-ing to one and all!

Hi
has anyone that is using the Pi5 tested its performance using a number of receivers (say 8 ham bands on HL2, for example) for FT8, FT4 and WSPR (so decoding up to 24 frequencies). How does the Pi5 perform in this type of configuration?  My 4GB Pi4 slows down after a while so I'm wondering if the upgrade would be worthwhile?

For what it’s worth, if you don’t have an active cooler on a pi 5, get one. If you can’t find one, get some other cooling solution. They *will* thermal throttle.

Also, last I checked due to some bugs, only the official raspberry pi 5 power supply could provide full current. I believe the cause might’ve been related to the exact voltage and current used, and needing an e-marker cable

Thanks that's good to know about the cooling and the PSU. I have not decided on the Pi5 just yet as I am running the Pi4/Bookworm for 24 hours with 22 frequencies decoding WSPR/FT8/FT4 with all Decode Depths set at 0 (which is ok for my purposes I believe - its made quite a big performance difference reducing this). Seems to be going ok so far after 5 hours and 60K decodes but ep6 is over 10000 already whereas it would be a very small number on the Win11PC.

Another question re Bookworm. I've read there was/is an issue with Websockets but I cant find a solution that is understandable to me as a non programmer. Is anyone able to confirm if they have websocket working with Spark on Bookworm please and if so what if any steps were needed?
