I am using RADMIN remote control software to connect to a home PC running W7 x64. The Bitdefender firewall works fine except if I want to do a file transfer while I also using the remote PC screen it denies the connection. If I connect for just a file transfer it works but does not allow both features PC screen and file transfer to work at the same time. I can disable the firewall or turn off Stealth mode off on the Home PC (server) and both features work as they should. It appears the fire only allows one connection per rule no matter how many rules you add for the same connection for the same adapter.
Are you sure that all ports required for the RADMIN software are allowed? If you set the adapter to 'Full Trust' is everything working as it should? Do you have ICS enabled in the advanced settings?
Radmin says they only use one port assigment, 4899 is the default. I tried turning on ICS and also set the adapter to Full Trust with the same results only one feature works at a time. Here is what I see in the activity tab window when both features are working and Stealth mode is turned off.
Even if it would work there is of course this limitation that windows or programs on the distant machine are not recognizable. What would be the best way to enable deliberately Sets of Hotkey Macros while working in one program and disable them or change this set of macros if changing to another program? Any idea? Im talking about sets of up to 20 Macros.
Since you are activating the macros with hotkeys, perhaps you could make the scope Global rather than window-specific? Even if you can't let them run permanently as Global, maybe that would get you through some additional testing.
I don't know how Radmin handles display of the remote machine's windows. With Citrix applications I have found ME can recognize partial window titles, enough so that macros can be activated by the appearance of a window. But when I have limited the macro's scope to window-specific it has been less predictable. Some ME functions, like hiding a Citrix window, have been unreliable at best. As you would expect, trying to use controls within a window doesn't work because the controls aren't really "there" from a Windows perspective. But keyboard actions work fine.
I have processors in India that use our system through Citrix. What we found out that works best is we installed ME on the citrix server and had ME operate from there. I would assume if you could install ME on the computer your "calling" your keystrokes then would activate the commands using the local ME program on that computer. Of course your specific macros would have to be loaded on that computer's macro express.
In addition, if you do this, when you go to invoke macros that are on the slave you need to terminate macro express on your computer. If I am working on the citrix screen and invoke a macro, usually my personal computer's macro express activates first. Therefore, I terminate my personal pc's macro express when I work on the Citrix screen. If you put ME on the slave computer you can then get specific as to windows to recognize. Hope this additional information helps.
Good points, John. If ME can be installed on the remote computer, it will run more reliably and more ME functions will be available. We have an application hosted by a remote data center on Citrix servers, and would dearly love to run ME on the Citrix servers. Unfortunately the hosting company will charge us $5,000 per month to do this, because ME is not on their "standard" application list. So we are doing extra work to make ME work locally on each user PC.
I did some additional testing. Even global macros which are running in every window are not working in radmin. I dont know why. Installing MEX on the distant pc is not an option for different reasons.
Anyway im still looking for the function to switch/force large Macros sets global. For this and another question i started two new threads. I would love to put a link in here but i dont know how. Sorry
I then imported the configuration files of my VPN provider. I tested both openvpn and wireguard clients and they connect to the remote servers. To be sure, I attached a smart tv to the LAN port of brume2, and the internet services work (youtube, spotify, etc.).
as a result, everything works local and remote. also, the tv can see the dlna server. now the question is to understand if the nas goes effectively through the vpn when connecting/connected to/from remote, LOL!
a last note (for the moment). After a few hours, I had to do some reconfiguration, because under VPN the NAS stopped to be reachable. The main dsl router and brume2 where however still accessible, so (almost) obviously the problem had to be in NAS configuration.
I will play a little bit with other configurations and topologies in the next days when I calm down
Fur sure I will try to follow your DMZ idea, in any case my dsl router is not from the ISP.
I have an old Netgear D6400.
Thanks again, I will try to follow these steps.
Meanwhile, I found out that having a DLNA server broadcasting outside its subnet is not that obvious and requires some good skills with OpenWRT.
Like you suggested, the purchase of a 5-port switch will be worth and easier, LOL!
If after installing Windows 10 update problems with connection to remote computer occur, you should download and install the latest Radmin Server 3.5.2. The new Radmin version includes improvements and fixes, ensuring correct operation of the Radmin Server after installing the update from Microsoft. Radmin 3.5.2 is available for download at www.radmin.com/download/Radmin_Server_3.5.2.1_EN.msi.
I have a 4 GB text file, compressed to 1.4 GB zip file. I need to copy it over to a Windows secure server using RDP. I am able to copy small files but not this file. It takes 15 mins and then shows an error. Any tips?
File size doesn't matter - I copied folders through Remote Desktop connection with 30GB and more. While doing this I received "Unspecified error". The Problem is that you aren't allowed to use the clipboard again while you are copying. Doesn't matter if you use the clipboard for the same machine or from the remote machine. To summarize don't use Ctrl+C.
What confused me was that after copying the file on the remote session, nothing seemed to happen when I tried to paste. What I figured out is that you can't attempt the paste until the file has finished being copied over, but you don't know when that is (which is a bit unintuitive to me). The solution I found was to download TCPview from Microsoft which you can use to monitor the process. It's a bit of a pain, but here is how I do it.
In case this helps anyone else who lands here from a search engine, if you're getting Unspecified error whilst copying a file smaller than the limit detailed in the accepted answer, like a 500MB file:
The permissions are held in your SQL database. So the best way is to use the interactive SQL application for your particular database (mysql for MySQL, sqlplus for Oracle, isql for Sybase and MS-SQL etc) and issue this command:
You can therefore use the $Radmin::CGIUtil::db to select a database to connect to when each script runs, and the user will continue using the same database as they follow the links within the Radmin pages. You could therefore use something like this in your Sql.pm:
If you have custom or non-standrard Vendor-Specific attribtues in your Radiator dictionary, you can get them into Radmin with this procedure. This procedure converts your Radiator dictionary into a form usable by RAdmin, and replaces the entire contents of the RADATTRS and RADVALUES tables.
I just want this server to be used not only by people from my local network, but also by people who are far away from me. The server itself is needed in order to use it to exchange large files, but for this you need Radmin vpn or another utility that can host for free
so everyone will install radmin on there computers? sounds like a simple torrent would be easier for share large files. Radmin is Windows only like chente said. using proton could cause big problems down the line.
If you give remote access to your local network through a VPN, you should be aware that you are giving access not only to the files, but to the entire network to the person who connects. I'm not sure if that's what you want, but this can easily be done in OMV using the openmediavault-wireguard plugin.
I know you can remotely shutdown a Windows machine with the "shutdown" command line. But I think it's impossible to remotely get a machine into safe mode (with networking). Does anyone know of a way to do this?
If you have the option to interactively connect to Windows on the machine, though, you can use MSCONFIG to set the /SAFEBOOT switch in boot.ini, then reboot the machine. Do Start -> Run and type in MSCONFIG, then on the boot.ini tab check /SAFEBOOT under Boot Options and choose which safe mode you want to boot into (in this scenario, NETWORK).
This is exactly what HP's integrated lights-out option is for. Editing the boot.ini file won't be much help, since you won't be able to log into the machine, as the RDP service won't run. In case that's an HP server though you can connect directly to it's console via https portal, and also have access to virtual "power button".
Not an answer to the question, but hopefully useful to anyone who's hit issues when trying this. I found that despite rebooting in safe mode with networking, various services including Remote Desktop Services and Server (i.e. providing SMB access to boot.ini) failed to start, giving error code 1084 when started via MMC > Services.
