Suggested Contacts are being synced.

I've seen other posts on this group indicating Spanning Sync should
NOT sync google 'Suggested Contacts'. I have had this issue through
all the 2.x betas and it's still present in 2.0.1!

Is this an issue on googles side or is SS pulling the wrong contact
list for me? I do not need someone I emailed in gmail to show up on my
phone, that gets frustrating!

Hi,

Actually Spanning Sync will sync any Google suggested contact that has
a name or business name associated with it. If you remove the name,
or business name, it shouldn't sync those contacts anymore.

Google adds these contacts automatically. Soocial manages to only sync contacts from the "My Contacts" list, so how can I configure Spanning Sync to do the same?

Unfortunately Google currently doesn't provide a way to distinguish
between "My Contacts" and "Suggested Contacts" using the Contacts API,
so there's no way for us to filter Suggested Contacts out. This is
true for other sync vendors like Soocial too. (One of their employees
incorrectly claimed they could filter Suggested Contacts at
http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/topics/does_the_sync_with_gmail_account_for_new_my_contacts_versus_suggested_contacts,
but was later corrected by another employee. In fact, they do the same
"poor man's filtering" that we do, where we don't sync contacts that
lack both a name and a company name.)

We know this is a very important feature to our users and are actively
lobbying Google to add the required functionality to the API. You can

Sorry for the misunderstanding- I must have checked out of the Soocial forum before the retraction was made. I've +'d the issue and I'll keep my fingers crossed they add a 'clean' feed for us to use.

In this post, from Oct 21, Google states:
"As part of this change, we're moving previously auto-added contacts
back into Suggested Contacts. Only contacts that you've edited,
imported or added to a group will remain in My Contacts. This will
provide everyone with a clean slate and, we hope, a better point for
syncing contacts with mobile devices (for example with Android). We'll
be rolling this change out to everyone over the next few days."

So, does this mean that SpanningSync will now be able to properly
filter suggested contacts with the API? Hope so.

Unfortunately, no. This change apparently only affects how contacts
get added to the My Contacts or Suggested Contacts pseudo-groups. The
Contacts API still provides no way to distinguish between My Contacts
and Suggested Contacts.

This has finally been addressed by Google. When can we expect Spanning
Sync to be updated to use the new API so we can avoid Suggested
Contacts? Is there an official channel for submitting feature

We've made the changes necessary to support GData v2.0 and will be
rolling them out later today. The changes are all server-side, so no
client software update will be required. Watch the Spanning Sync blog
(blog.spanningsync.com) for the announcement.

The best way to submit feature requests is to post them here or send
them directly to sup...@spanningsync.com.

I too would like to be notified when Spanning Syn c addresses this -
I've been holding off syncing my contacts with my computed, and
subsequently my phone since this feature was a bit whacky.

We just pushed the changes to the live server that will no longer sync
Suggested Contacts from Google to your Mac. If you have unwanted
contacts in your Address Book that are still listed as Suggested
Contacts in Google you can easily remove them:

* Open Google Contacts
* Select the "Suggested Contacts" group
* Click Select All
* Click "Delete Contacts"
* Sync

problems.
