Dear Spanning Sync Team.
I understand you have buglists and also developed the Backup Tool
recently. But quite frank it is time to start implementing Group Sync
now. Almost 1.5 years ago when I subscribed to Spanning Sync it was
said to be on the todo list - nothing happend so far.

It would be very kind if you could commit to a release date any time
soon. Anotherwise it seems about time to look for alternatives. Group
Sync is just a mandatory feature for Contact Sync.

Thank you in advance.

I totally agree - this is a major hole and I think contact sync is
half implemented unless my contact groups sync

Agreed. This is a must-have feature.

Me too.  I really want a seamless experience.  Instead I'm adding tags (keywords) to the notes field and creating smartlists in apple's address book.  Unfortunately these groups aren't then reflected on the google side of things.

I am not surprised to see this issue resurface to the near the top of
the discussions. I just received my notification that my subscription
will expire in 7 days (hardly a long enough lead time ... hello,
people sometimes go offline for an entire week) ... but if I renew
RIGHT NOW I'll save $10.

I don't appreciate the extreme time pressure and my first reaction
was, well, I don't have time to really evaluate whether I wish to
renew right now ... so I'll grab that discount offer & renew today.

Then I remembered the countless hours (no exaggeration) grouping my
contacts in Google. And having to continuously check in iCal for
contacts that are not in any group (not an easy affair, by any means,
via the user interface!!) and group them on that side.

Particularly with the advent of Google Voice, contact groups in Google
have become very meaningful. In Google Voice there are settings for
which voicemail to play for which group, for example, which phone(s)
to ring for each group, and whether to enable call screening for a
group.

Upon these reflections I realized that Spanning Sync is more trouble
than it's worth, for this ONE REASON, that we cannot match up Address
Book groups with Google Groups for syncing, as we can do with
calendars.

Therefore I've decided to run one last sync, use Google Groups as the
place I group my contacts, and to not group them in Address Book at
all. (I do not use Apple Mail so groups in Address Book are not
terribly useful for me anyhow).

As for my calendars, particularly as an Android user, I'm moving more
and more to using Google Calendar as my primary calendar app and I
will just go all the way with that idea. If I'm not on my laptop, I
have my phone with me, so the need for a desktop calendar is moot.

IN SHORT: Dear Spanning Sync: If you had group-to-group contacts sync
happening I would probably be renewing. Oh well.
