I am having a really irritating problem when I sync my contacts with
gmail (and from there with my G1 phone). Contacts that can be mapped
(with "Map of") in Address Book, when they get synced to my Gmail
contacts (and from there to my G1 phone) can not be mapped (by
clicking on "map" under the address) just gives me a google page with
a map of the US and "We were not able to locate the address:..."
What's the deal with this? Any idea. I tried fixing everything and
nothing worked. The only thing that worked was retyping the whole
address in to my phone or gmail contacts manually, which kind of
defeats the purpose of syncing.

Thanks,
Dan Stee

Dan-

I suspect the invisible characters we use for Address Book
Compatibility Mode are confusing Google Maps. You can try turning it
off:

* Open Spanning Sync
* In the Contacts tab, deselect and then re-select the "Sync contacts"
checkbox
* Choose "Preserve Gmail Compatibility" and click "OK"
* In the Advanced tab, click "Replace Data on Google...", select
"Contacts", and click "OK"

Note that this process will clear your Gtalk chat lists and all
contact groups on Google. Once it completes, your Google contacts
won't have the invisible characters and should work better with Google
Maps.

Please let us know how it works out.

Thanks,
Charlie

Charlie,

These invisible characters you speak of, is that why I could be
getting "boxes" on my iPhone?

I have Spanning Sync setup to sync to my Google Account then NuevaSync
sends that to my iPhone

Thanks!

Doug-

Yes--those characters are valid Unicode characters that should be
invisible, but some applications don't properly display them. We're
working on a way to get rid of them permanently, but in the mean time
you can disable Address Book Compatibility Mode in Spanning Sync to
get rid of them:

(note that this process will clear all Gtalk chat lists and contact
groups in Google)

* In Spanning Sync, turn contact syncing off then back on
* Select Gmail compatibility mode
* In the Advanced tab, click "Replace Data on Google" and choose
"Contacts"
* Sync

Please let me know if you have any questions or run into any
problems.

Thanks,
Charlie
