Dear Spanning Sync,
I am not very satisfied with your service. The Calendar sync seems to
be working alright, but I keep having trouble with my contacts. I have
been tidying up my address book several times, and time and again the
same errors keep on coming back. In addition, I have lost quite a bit
of information, such as telephone numbers. Also, the groups do not
appear in GMail contacts. So, all in all, I would have never paid 60
dollars for this service, since it has cost me a lot of time and
effort to make up for all the sync problems occurring each time.

It usually happens when I have merged several contacts using the
Contacts cleaner. Then it asks me to delete contacts. I have allowed
this, and sometimes I loose information. I have made a backup using
Spanning Sync, but it is not clear how to restore this backup. And if
this backup will not mess up my Address Book even more..

In conclusion, I would like to know how to restore the backup made by
Spanning Sync (it does not contain an Address Book archive file but
something that ends with .abcddb ...??)

Hi Thieme,

Could you send a troubleshooting report (from the Advacned tab of the
pref pane) to us at sup...@spanningsync.com? From that I think we can
start to sort things out. One hint: when cleaning up iCal or Address
Book, whether by hand or with a tool like Contacts Cleaner, it's best
to follow this pattern:

* Disable sync completely (Sync Tune-Up which comes with Spanning
Tools for Mac can do this)
* Make the repairs
* Go to the Advanced tab of the Spanning Sync pref pane
* Click "Start Over" while holding down the Option key, then select
calendars and/or contacts, whichever you just repaired.
* Enable syncing (again, with Sync Tune-Up)
* Sync

By option-clicking "Start Over", you force a "merge" sync which will
protect you from sending unintended deletes from your cleanup session
to Google.

Thanks

Larry a few things on your recommendations below:

#1 Backup your contacts (from google voice)
goto>Contacts
goto> Export (top right)
goto> Who do you want to export? Everyone (All Contacts) *suggested
goto> Which export format? Google CSV *suggested in case you have to
start over

Backup should be done before you start anything below.

I ran through all the suggested methods even picked up the spanning
tools went as far as using the "Nuke" function and still my contacts
are not synced properly.

What I had to wind up doing to get them synced is just export
everything from google contacts into vCard format and importing it
onto each of my computers to have the same information across all of
them.

I will now run sync to see what happens and will update once its done
what it has to do hopefully it will not drop any more of my contacts.

On google contacts I show 1637 however on the local address book

Follow up to my prior post.

1.) Took an export from my google contacts and placed them on each of
the machines to make sure that all my contacts were the same on each
of my macs with what I have on my google contacts.

2.) Then I ran the spanning sync "contact cleaner" and it went through
a few times and tried deleting some of my contacts which I kept
refusing and fixed some of my contacts on one machine and then the
other, which both provided varied results in regards to the conflicts.
Same data set of contacts, not sure why this happened.

3.) I did this (run Contacts Cleaner) until it told me there were no
conflicts yesterday.

4.) Today I ran the "Contacts Cleaner" and more conflicts came up, I
also ran the installer update Version 1.1.2 and got more conflicts.

I am somewhat worried about running spanning sync contacts cleaner on
my address book however have not encountered any problems that I can
tell on the calendar at this time.

Any suggestions on getting the contacts more correctly synced, also
what is the criteria by which contacts cleaner decides it needs to
decide if something should be deleted?
