Hi there,

I use SpanningSync for syncing my home Mac to Google, and
CompanionLink for Google to sync between Google and Lotus Notes on my
work PC. A very recent update shows the following in the changelog:

http://www.companionlink.com/support/releasenotes-companionlinkforgoogle.html

Fixes in companionlink.exe 01/08/08 version 3.0 build 3014
- Added support for syncing tasks with Google Calendar.
- Added support for Gmail contacts.

I actually had a problem with using this build and reported a bug, and
was told that Google hasn't currently enabled this for all user
accounts but is in the process of doing so.

So does this mean that SpanningSync might have support for the same
feature soon? I've trawled the Google Data API group and blog but
there hasn't been any announcement about the Contacts API, so I dunno
how these guys have managed to implement it already.

Cheers, Dan.

We've seen several products that claim to "sync" Gmail contacts but
are actually using hacks like screen-scraping or export/import. As
soon as Google releases a Contacts API, we'll start working on true
contact sync. (Note that CompanionLink also talks about syncing tasks,
which don't exist in Gmail.)

Thanks,
Charlie
