This first photo was taken the day I met Bruce in May, 2013. I'd posted to the SPA Discussion List that I wanted to buy an SPA legal airplane. Bruce posted an hour later "I've got one for you. Come and get it."
I picked up the DR-1 on Wednesday, installed my radio equipment that night, drove to Knoxville and test flew it with Bruce’s supervision on Friday, and flew it in the contest that weekend. I still have that plane, although it hasn’t been flown for a while. My eyes aren’t getting any younger, and Bruce’s signature orange Monokote is hard for me to see.
It’s my favorite picture of Bruce and Jane. Bobbie took this photo at the same time as the one Duane posted earlier. You can actually see Duane’s shadow in the original uncropped photo. It was taken at Clover Creek Aerodrome, TN, on Aug 5, 2018.
I’ve flown with the SERMA club since that day and enjoyed many a fine afternoon flying with Bruce.
