The brown airplane truck brought me a Killer Chaos kit Tue. afternoon. Something to frame in the fall for practice flying after long winter layovers etc. I'm semi retired now and  have a lot more time to build and fly.

I prefer to build from plans but a decent kit makes framing go faster of course . After checking out this affordable kit , it kind of blew me away! I don't remember
the wood in the original Bridi kits being this nice. Premium light but not overly soft hand selected machine cut wood with Lazer cut ribs removed from the sheet and neatly stacked with jig rod holes in them.
Pre-tinted (blue) canopy. One piece fuse sides and the list goes on.......anyway

A BIG THANKYOU  to the Latta's at Blue Jay........I'm very picky as many of ya'll know and would highly recommend these kits to anyone.

John,  Glad to hear of the quality of the kit from Blue Jay.  It is nice to know of a good source.

As to what I have highlighted below, all I can say is, "HAH!!"  That's what I thought, too, but...

Someone told me I needed to go back to work so I could get done the things I did while I was working.  "Course, back problems don't help things.

John,

I agree 100% on the quality of the Bluejay kits. The balsa is wonderfully light, the parts fit right the first time, and the laser cut wing ribs are great. You are correct that the wood in the original Bridi kits was NOT this nice - it was usually HEAVY!! The hardware package is also very nice and complete, although I won't use all of it because I have my own preferences in hardware. The plans are so-so - not the best copy but Lynn Latta at Bluejay told me it's made directly from the original he got from Joe Bridi when he bought the rights. One nice feature is that they show the location for the main landing gear blocks if you want to build a tail dragger Dirty Birdy.

I'm currently building their Dirty Birdy 60. The only letdown in the entire kit is the canopy - it's NOT a Dirty Birdy canopy. The shape is wrong and it doesn't have the signature DB tucks down the side. It will end up on some other project at a future date. However, the CORRECT canopy is available from Park Flyer Plastics - see link below. It was created directly from the original canopy out of a NIB Bridi Dirty Birdy kit - some of the classic pattern guys on RCUniverse.com made it happen. Another interesting fact is that the 40 and 60 size Dirty Birdy both use the same canopy, verified from NIB originals. Price - only $7! I have 2 of them sitting in my shop now.

I have PDF files of the original RCM full scale plans and construction article for the wood Dirty Birdy 60. The plans show the hardwood motor mounts, but it's easy to substitute a nylon radial mount - that's what Bluejay did. I also have PDF files of full scale plans for the following SPA-legal planes - Curare, Deception, Cutlass, Compensator, Super Kaos 40 and 60, and the Great Planes (RCM) Trainer 60. I can guarantee the authenticity of the last one - it's a  scan of the plans from mine.

Drop me an email if you're interested - I'd be happy to share.

Jim ,

Keith Sparks is the owner of Park Flyer Plastics ,here in the North East Fort Worth Area . He is a
Very accomplished Builder of note and has had many articles published in our magazines .He has also been
a member of of Fort Worth Thunderbirds for years . Very good guy to work with and Fast on custom work .
In fact the Canopy that is on the Compensator that we built for Lindy came from him as a copy of an Original
that Blake Arnold had Keith copy . Time to get 4 copys made ,start to finish was 2 days ,if I recall and very inexpensively .

It is great to hear of people that still do quality work and for an honest price!!  I came within a nat's eyelash (not a "NATs" eyelash  lol) of spending $3600 with Orkin to pump "4 feet" of water from our crawl space (this as of last Wednesday).  They were going to put in a fancy rock drainage system and sump pump.  As of 10:00am this morning (Saturday) the water is gone, the humidity in the space is 50% -- low enough to prevent mold from forming -- and I didn't spend $3600 dollars.  Orkin does a good job on varmint control, but they SUCK on home "repair".  Well, anyway, they will take your money (BIG chunks of it) for doing nothing that is needed.

I am going to write this process up for use with the BBB and the local newspaper, so if anyone wants to see the whole story, let me know.  As "they" say, CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!  In spades...

Jim, are the Cutlass plans for the wood kit or the fiberglass?
I have the fiberglass fuselage but I'm curious to see what the wood plans are like.

Awesome, I've been looking for that.  My glass fuselage plans are horrible and this will help.

Thanks,
Tim
