Reports have that Steve Helms has died on December 12. Hope there can be discussion on list of all his accomplishments.

Who can forget Steve's Bootlegger design? This is Steve holding Cliff Hiatt's 1979 Bootlegger recreation at Huntsville, AL in 2013.

Thats terrible, forgot where it was less than a year ago when i saw him, he was at a contest talking airplanes with ole friends.

Our hobby has lost another good man, I didn’t know him well but pitted a
few tents done from him at the 91 Nats. he was very friendly and tried to
answer any questions people had. Steve’s plane then was a gorgeous “Mystery”
with a reverse pitch prop, pretty cool at the time.

I met Steve and had a chance to chat with him 2 or 3 times. The time I remember best was when he worked for Kraft and he was in the Kraft booth at a trade show in Dallas. I was flying a Vertigo II in pattern back then. I felt it was underpowered with a Webra Speed 61. Steve told me I should get a Rossi with a pipe. I followed his advice and he was right. It was a whole different airplane with the Rossi. Steve was one of the good guys. He has left us too soon.
